Dear Friends

Greetings from Hobart, where June sees short days and cool temperatures - but when we also remind ourselves that Spring and its blossoming forth is just around the corner.

Our attention also turns to one of the many exciting artists appearing in this year’s Keynote Festival.
Aura Go is one of Australia’s most in-demand pianists, and we couldn’t wait to sign her up again after three very popular performances in last year’s festival.

In recent seasons Aura has performed as soloist with the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Queensland Symphony Orchestras, Tapiola Sinfonietta, and the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. Festival appearances have included the Edinburgh Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. In 2023 Aura toured nationally for Musica Viva in a critically acclaimed performance as pianist-actor in the stage adaptation of Paul Kildea's Chopin's Piano.

Current 2026 season highlights include solo engagements with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, plus a national tour for Musica Viva with violinist Kristian Winther and cellist Timo-Veikko Valve (Tipi), both recent guests in Hobart for TCMF. Aura’s musical partnership with Tipi has resulted in a recent recording for ABC Classics of the complete Beethoven cello sonatas and works by Webern. She has also recorded for Tall Poppies four-hand music by Ekaterina Komalkov, some of we were delighted to hear performed in Hobart with Ian Munro at the 2025 Keynote festival.

This year Aura’s musical collaborators in Hobart include flautist Joshua Batty in an evocative program of French and Argentinian music (including the famous tango-inflected Café 1930 by Piazzolla), and cellist Li Wei Qin in music by Schumann and Britten.

We are really thrilled to be able to bring these outstanding international artists to Tasmania, what better way to enjoy their excellence than in beautiful Hobart in late Spring with glorious sunshine-filled days and extended twilight hours.

We have been delighted by the strong support of this festival’s offerings and today begin our series of portraits of all the performers.

Needing no real introduction is Piers Lane, who is making a very welcome return to the festival, having performed both at the inaugural festival in 2017, and more recently in 2022.

One of Australia’s most acclaimed pianists, Piers has been based in London for many years from where he pursues a very busy international career. Piers maintains a strong connection with his homeland, and in 2015 was appointed Artistic Director of the Sydney International Piano Competition and is responsible for initiatives like the 2021 Online Piano Competition, the Piano Lovers’ Competition for amateur Australian pianists.

Chamber music has always been a key to Piers’ professional life, and at the Keynote Festival this year, as well as playing a virtuoso solo program of Bach, Chopin, Debussy and Schubert, he will be collaborating with international stars Emily Sun and Li-Wei Qin in a wide array of chamber classics.

In addition to these dazzling performances, festival pass-holders will also have the opportunity to meet our artists at the festival finale lunch within the Royal Botanical Gardens where renowned winery Bird in Hand will present their inaugural release of Tasmanian grown wines.

We are also delighted that each concert will again be preceded by a talk by our resident expert musicologist, Robert Gibson, whose succinct introductions will enhance your appreciation of each event.
