Dear Silver Words Community

Are you an up and coming logo-designer? Do you want infinite bragging rights as the designer of our new logo?

Well here is the opportunity for you! We are looking to upgrade our logo to something that reflects our community of poets, and our new chapter at Hope and Anchor — a return and a renewal. And who better to come up with a representation of our community, than one of you!

Submit your take on our logo "Silver Words Poetry" using the form below.

Submissions close when a massive crowd of n**e swimmers in red caps charge into the cold waters of the Derwent, Winter Solstice 21st June. The final logo will be selected by Silver Words Organisers.

We look forward to seeing your submission!

Good news story: One of our regular poets Eamonn has been running Broke A$$ Brunch - an initiative to provide free brunches at Criterion Street (Mathers House) with chef Jai Chang.

Free chef-cooked brunches, live music and a pop-up winter clothing market rolled into Criterion House this weekend as a group of Hobart mates launched a grassroots response to the cost-of-living crunch.

'Broke A$$ Brunch' served hot breakfasts on Mathers Lane from 11am to 2pm on Saturday.

"People just can't afford a nice breakfast these days," organiser Eamonn Miller said. He described the project as a collective - not a charity - aiming to remove stigma around free food.

Miller said the brunch also tackles winter isolation and he hopes to make it a regular event.

GERT: a woman, a place, a story.

In 1924, near Queenstown on the west coast of Lutruwita/Tasmania, a young man holds a double-barrelled gun with a black cockatoo perched on the barrel. A young woman with short curly hair stands beside him in the button grass, a dead black cockatoo dangling from each hand. Who is this woman, and what is she doing?

Travel through time and place with Jacqui Malins through the deep history of ancient Lutruwita and the vibrant community and boom-and-bust rhythms of the west coast to find out. This is a world of rivers and rainforest, loggers and miners, smelters and dams. GERT brings forward one of many untold stories of the women who lived in this environment. Jacqui brings spoken word together with visuals and music for a transporting, multimedia experience.

GERT is also a book of poetry and prints, published by Recent Work Press in 2025.
