This new prize emerged on the ninetieth anniversary of the hotel’s first art exhibition. With the theme for the 2017 prize being ‘History and Place’, the inaugural prize presents a range of connections with the past by some of Australia’s leading indige

nous and non-indigenous artists exhibited in two stunning new galleries within Hadley’s Orient Hotel. Come and stay at the historic hotel and immerse yourself in some of Australia’s best landscape art. Artwork is available for sale and there are several prize-related events to enjoy.

Our 2025 Residency Prize winner De Lamby Wulff has been very productive and making the most of her time here. We’re excited to share her creations with you all soon in an exhibition at Hadley’s titled HoLoS: House of Lamby on Show.

HoLoS – House of Lamby on Show – features the full breadth of her artwork with sculptures and 2D work she created during her residency alongside other artworks that she has made over the past few years, including The Music Within which came runner up in the 2025 World of WearableArt (WOW) in New Zealand.

Come and be amazed from 30 May – 29 June at Hadley's Orient Hotel from 10am – 4pm daily.
Admission will be free and De’s works will be for sale.

Hadley’s Residency Prize offers recipients the rare opportunity to spend a month immersed in the landscapes,culture and creative atmospheres of southern Lutruwita/Tasmania.

De said "receiving the residency was both humbling and deeply affirming. Four weeks of uninterrupted creative freedom is a rare and meaningful gift.”

Hadley’s Residency Prize is proudly presented by The Old Woolstore, Salamanca Arts Centre and Artery.

Calling Australian students!

The Hadley's Student prize is a $500 prize presented by the University of Tasmania for an outstanding artwork by a student working with a landscape theme in their visual art practice.

This prize is designed for students in year 10/11/12. The Hadley's Student Prize is also supported by Art Education Australia and the Tasmanian Art Teachers Association.

Entries are now open, closing 10 July 2026

We’ve had a wonderful year and were delighted by the strong attendance at this year’s exhibition.
