Another packed crowd at Animaga 2025 — and that’s the heart of convention culture.

It’s more than just anime on a screen. It’s cosplay, artist markets, gaming corners, panels with creators, and rows of merchandise stalls. But above all, it’s about community — people connecting over a shared passion, expressing creativity, and just enjoying being part of something bigger.

A sea of people, all here for the same thing — celebrating anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture together.

That’s what makes conventions like Animaga special: cosplay everywhere you look, artist alleys and vendor halls buzzing, panels with creators and fans sharing their worlds, and gaming corners packed with energy.

Even if you’re not deep into anime, you can’t help but get caught up in the vibe — it’s community, creativity, and connection all in one space.

Two Chinese-Aussie cosplayers — one in what looked like an East German police uniform, the other in a flowing black robe giving off serious spymaster vibes. No idea what anime they were representing, but it sparked something unexpected for me.

Our neighbour grew up in East Germany and moved to England when the Wall came down. Over the years we’ve been lucky enough to learn from him — what it was like to grow up in the East, to work in an industry that required travel to the West, how close movies really get to the truth, and what unification actually felt like.

It’s the kind of relationship where you can ask questions without worrying about causing offence. Seeing an East German look turn up in anime cosplay made me think about those conversations, and how history finds strange new ways of being reimagined.

Whether you're having a good or crappy day, I want you to know that we (yes, the royal 'we') care and think you're amazing. I mean, you're still reading this post, and that says a lot!

One of the goals of The Barefoot Nurse is to offer a little distraction, some magic, a little love, a bit of learning, or a sprinkle of humor into your day. I hope this post did just that.
