WATERWORKS | PLoT THEATRE SOCIETY | JULY 22 – AUGUST 1 | PEACOCK THEATRE

Set in a retirement village, Waterworks is a satirical exploration of institutional corruption, ageism, poverty, and the fragile nature of community. Amy finds herself navigating a system built to maintain control rather than provide care, where residents are managed, monitored, and quietly forgotten.

When a peculiar new neighbour arrives, unsettling, othered, and impossible to ignore, the delicate balance of village life begins to shift. As routines distort and tensions rise, Amy and the residents are forced to confront what it truly means to be seen, valued, and treated with dignity.

Blurring the line between the absurd and the all-too-real, Waterworks follows a community on the brink as they grapple with belonging, resistance, and the quiet fight to restore humanity to a system that has long stripped it away.

SALAMANCA JAZZ: NADIRA & FRIENDS | JUNE 27 | THE FOUNDERS ROOM | 7:30PM

In this concert, Nadira and Friends will put a cheeky spin on beloved, not-so-standard jazz standards performed in straight-ahead style. The uptempo tunes will have your toes tapping, and the ballads may have your mascara running. Expect a feel-good emotional rollercoaster and one seriously fun night out.

Nadira will be joined on stage by: Matthew Ives – drums; Iestyn Parry – piano; Seb Folvig – double bass; Jesse Bowden – sax; and Stevie McEntee – trombone.

Nadira and Friends is a jazz ensemble fronted by Nadira, a Hobart-based jazz vocalist and ensemble leader. Gaining a reputation as a standout voice and personality in contemporary straight-ahead jazz, Nadira captivates audiences with punchy, articulate jazz vocals, a playful punk-ish edge and quick-witted banter that could double as a comedy act. Petite yet unmistakably commanding, she is a highly capable and experienced vocalist with an impressive repertoire. She connects instantly with listeners, bringing a contagious sense of fun. Wherever she goes, she’s always got her network of top-tier jazz musicians, the “Friends” part of the band, ready to join her for swingin’ affairs.

THE LAST DAYS OF MANKIND | JUSTUS NEUMANN & JULIUS SCHWING | JUNE 12 & 13 | PEACOCK THEATRE

Justus Neumann and Julius Schwing bring their award winning reading of Karl Kraus’s apocalyptic comedy The Last Days of Mankind back to the Peacock Theatre.

Written between 1914 and 1919, The Last Days of Mankind is Karl Kraus’s magnum opus, an examination of war, an enormous dramatic repository of his satirical themes and techniques. In the history of European drama this powerful pacifist play occupies a very special place. This award winning dramatised reading by actor Justus Neumann and musician Julius Schwing condenses this originally 10 night epic into a 70 minute virtuosic powerhouse performance.

“The action seems improbable, disjointed and heroless. The events shown in this play no matter how unlikley, actually took place. It is world war, it is my manifesto to mankind.” – Karl Kraus, 1918
