What an incredible month for SAC resident artists. This week the hugest congratulations goes to the uber-talented Emma Bingham (Emma Bingham) for winning the National Works on Paper 2026 Emerging Artist Award 🏆 So well-deserved! 👏

Congratulations to Emma Bingham, winner of the National Works on Paper 2026 Emerging Artist Award for her work Holding pattern.
Created during moments of pause and uncertainty in Emma’s daily studio practice, Holding pattern uses repeated gestures of rubbing, erasing and layering to explore ideas of care, repetition and reflection.
The judges described the work as having an “intimate, corporeal energy”, with each individual piece coming together to form a larger whole.
See Holding pattern as part of National Works on Paper 2026, now showing at MPRG until 22 November.
Free entry. Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-4pm.

Opening Celebration: Thursday 17th September | 5:30pm

Elemental – a simple beginning formed from the elements of nature.
The essential, deep-seated fundamentals of using the elements that the earth provides.

Earth, water and fire combine to create a myriad of possibilities.
Soft wet clay is formed, air dried and then an intense form of heat is applied to recreate a new internal structure.

The magic of ceramics is a process that has been used throughout time – although now methods are more sophisticated – the overall outcome has not changed for centuries.

Members of the Tasmanian Ceramics Association are pleased to be exhibiting the many forms of contemporary ceramics – both functional and sculptural, in our 54th Annual Members Exhibition and Prize Giving.

SLIGHTLY AWKWARD: AN AUTISTIC RESPONSE TO SOCIETY | KAT SCARLET | SEPTEMBER 11 - 19 | SIDESPACE GALLERY

Presented as visual narrative through the use of acrylic painting, textiles and installation pieces, this exhibition maps the artist’s journey of late diagnosis, autistic burnout and identity redevelopment in a deeply personal and vulnerable way.

Known for her artistic practice and her contribution to community arts, Southern Tasmanian artist Kat Scarlet has a distinctive style of hyper-colour, rich detail, pattern and perspective.

This immersive exhibition invites audiences to take a retrospective journey through Kat’s years of diagnosis and burnout, using her art as story telling. Showcasing her newer textile works which embrace bold textile form, sequins, humour and unapologetic q***r expression alongside her well known landscapes.

More than an exhibition, Slightly Awkward : An Autistic Response to Society creates a space for audiences to consider questions around identity, difference, ableism, belonging and the often invisible ways people navigate the world.

Fourteen artists from the Huon Valley present a group exhibition of a diverse array of stunning art works demonstrating the wealth of creativity within the valley.

The artists of the Huon Valley collective comprises a group talented creatives with a diverse range of skills and media including painting, photography, sculpting and ceramics. These artists are Anna Arden Wong, Emma Coombes, Heather Crisp, Lysbeth Driessen, Libby Dyer, Kerri Jacobson, Donna Kelly, Joanna Lawton, Daren Lindsell, Ruth Lindsell, Henrietta Manning, Catherine Morris, Gabrielle Nicoll and Richard Stanley.

We're obsessed with this stunning installation in Lightbox by Bec Adamczewski.

In colours as bold as the cheeky cockatoos depicted, 'A Riot' is currently installed and casting a sunset glow at the Salamanca Arts Centre main entrance.

'A cacophony of sulphur-crested cockatoos spend their days at Long beach, at the end of the day they travel together over the valley and hills to roost safely through the night in Taroona. Recently one of the large trees on their journey was cut down. The cockatoos response? A riot.'

Jacqui Renton's solo exhibition 'More than a Stick' opens tonight in Studio Gallery at 5:00pm.

If you've been following along, you'll notice we have three wonderful exhibitions opening tonight at Salamanca Arts Centre. This is the perfect night to come celebrate some of the best local talent nipaluna/Hobart has to offer.

'More than a Stick' brings together a collection of jewellery, neck-pieces and brooches, featuring the beauty of driftwood.

Shaped by time and tide, this collection ranges from smooth and sun bleached to hollow and deeply textured. These natural qualities are paired with both traditional and unexpected materials; pearls, silver, gold leaf, acrylic ink and steel cable.

Exhibition continues until 24 Sep, 2026.

Emerging artist Paula Bowers's solo exhibition 'Here, Still' opens tonight in Top Gallery at 5:30pm.

Through 'Here, Still', Bowers intuitively responds to changing light cast upon hills and mountains surrounding nipaluna/Hobart. Rather than a singular moment, these works gently capture a process of continued observation and engagement.

Exhibition continues until 27 Sep, 2026.
