Although most of the information contained in this website is about swing dancing in Hobart, we would like to include details about swing and related forms of dancing from all of Tasmania. This site will be kept completely up to date with swing dance news and social events in Tasmania, so check

TasSwing run swing classes every Wednesday night at the Polish Hall, 20 New Town Road, New Town (enter via the blue door on Clare Street). See the Classes page for details! Last but by no means least on our dance program is Sunday Afternoon Swing!
While the Fern Tree Tavern is just 15 mins from the CBD, it feels like another world! Perched on the side of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, surrounded by tall tree ferns and forest, the Tavern has an epic fireplace to keep you warm on the outside, and plenty of Tassie beers, wines, and food to warm you up or cool you down on the inside.
Perfectly matched to this event, we've got musical legends Billy Whitton (guitar & vocals), Randal Muir (hammond organ) and Matt Apted (drums), with their masterfully sublime blues and soul infused swinging jazz to see out the weekend!

TasSwing, Hobart’s original swing dance school, is proudly celebrating 25 years of keeping the city moving to the rhythm of swinging’ jazz.
Founded in 2001 by Barry Windridge alongside a team of passionate teachers. Over the years, leadership was passed through to Dave Connell and Shan Deng, with Shan continuing to guide the school before current manager Scott Fraser took the helm.
Swing dancing has long been a vibrant part of Hobart’s cultural life, with local dancers often seen on the floors at the city’s many outstanding live jazz events and social parties, and is widely recognised within the global swing dance community as a fun, friendly, and welcoming space. Hobart’s swing dance culture is defined by its strong sense of community and reflects the best of Hobart life—supportive, inclusive, and connected.

TasSwing will mark its 25th anniversary as part of this year’s Winter Swing Festival—a weekend-long Lindy Hop experience that brings together local and interstate dancers to celebrate with some of Hobart’s exceptional live jazz bands and locations.
