[Sold] For sale today is this amazing, fully working classic Bally Knockout electro mechanical pinball game.

This is a genuine heavy hitter. A complex and deeply engineered piece of analog computer history, with an incredible array of precision engineered assemblies that still amaze me, despite being around them for years.

This game is ideal for someone with an engineering mind who has a good grasp on electro mechanical games, or someone with an interest in analog computing electronics.

It’s fully working, the components are in excellent working condition and the backglass is a 10/10. The playfield is very good for its age with just a couple of minor cracks appearing.

The cabinet is very solid, but it has faded artwork and some chips and scuffs, it is original I believe.

This game will be sold with a complete set of spare plastics in great condition. Comes with powder coated legs.

It’s really heavy and it’s loud!

This is a V8 of electro mechanical pinball games, it will endlessly amaze a competent technician, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

Even though its tempting as a new pinball owner to look at a game like this as an economical foray into the hobby, this is definitely not a game for a first time owner.

It is truely engineered to last but needs regular maintenance from someone who can read and understand a rather complex schematic.

If this sound like you, please get in touch. I’m keen to find it a quality new home.

Sometimes the little parts make a big difference on your pinball game project. This was an important part to pit some time and effort into.

It’s obvious to players on first approach, it’s a high contact part, and it is a part that has some charm to it with the classic embossing.

Today I shine up this old, crusty reject basket swinging flap on the c**n door of my Stern Meteor.

Today, a few thoughts from me about restoring old parts… and acknowledging how well they were made.

In this short video, I demonstrate how to selectively use coloured LEDs to add value to your game where the some inserts are bleached out and others aren’t.

Here’s a great look at the difference a few new LEDs can make under the hood of your classic game!

Today I had the pleasure of doing a deep repair and restoration on a Sega Starship Troopers game.

What a terrific game it is too!

This one was dead on arrival, but after some board electronics repairs from retro tech repairs, the whitestar mpu was ready to go back in today…. but that was just the beginning!

Years of play had taken its course on this old game and it was time for a total work over.

The rubbers were all perished and only 50% of the old incandescent lights still worked. Rusty balls and some other issues needed immediate attention.

8 hours later, it’s gleaming and bright as day! Titan rubber in clear and black, with red
flippers, new balls, LEDs throughout, including a new flashers, pin-gulp cupholder and a few little running repairs…. as well as a lot of polish and shine!

Absolutely beautiful result! I’m very happy with the result and the owners are too.

My feet are sore! 😉

I had a great afternoon working on this tired old lighting panel today from a Stern “Meteor” game.

It’s easy to overlook this item when restoring a classic game; because it’s hidden behind a front facing sheet of glass or plastic, which is usually decorated with incredible artwork.

However it’s important to address this light bay for several reasons. Firstly, years of filament dust has typically built up on the white surface making it way less reflective and dirty to touch… so the light doesn’t reflect well to backlight the artwork. Accordingly the artwork is often dimly lit and less attractive.

Secondly, I always recommend replacing the incandescent lights with LEDs in this area. Not only are they way more efficient and bright, but importantly they greatly reduce heat behind the glass, which would eventually damage the irreplaceable artwork and reduce the value of the game.

So, today I removed the lights, striped out 5 lamp shrouds, removed the 5 display mounts and painted the panels with 3 coats of crisp white.

I also use this time to lighten and clean the latch, lubricate & tighten the hinge and replace the old lock with a new one. Each of the plasma displays gets checked individually for clarity and brightness and they get rotated around.

The #44 lamps were replaced with LEDs and the flashers were replaced…. the game will now look incredible when it goes back together on Tuesday.
