It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Nan Francis, aged 101, a beloved figure in the Yarra Ranges and Healesville community, and a tireless champion of the arts.

A professional violinist and one of only a few women to play in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Nan brought determination to her community work as one of the instigators of the Yarra Valley Arts and long-term committee member, an advocate for women, and a dedicated supporter of The Memo's redevelopment, where the Nan Francis Room now stands in her honour. Also, Yarra Ranges Council Australian of the Year in 2000.

Together with her husband Adrian, Nan gave a lifetime of energy and passion to the arts and to this community. She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will live on in every performance held within The Memo’s walls.

"When music and life come together, it's a special moment to savour." β€” Nan Francis
