We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Diane's passing. She was a wonderful supporter of highland dancing and we loved having her come to Hay. There wouldn't be too many comps she hasn't been at or involved in.

Highland Dancing wouldn't be what it is without our amazing supporters and volunteers, and Di was one of NSW highland dancing's best.

To her family, especially her daughters, Justine, Peet and Casey, we send you our deepest condolensces at this very sad time.

Vale – Diane Banks

It is with sadness, that we announce the passing of our Life Member Diane Banks, and acknowledge the remarkable contribution to Highland dancing and the SDAA.

Diane’s journey with Highland dancing began in 1975, becoming an SDAA member in 1977 and later being awarded Life Membership in 1995.

Through her daughters Justine, Peta and Casey, she became deeply involved in the Highland dancing community, travelling extensively to competitions across Australia and forming friendships that would last a lifetime.

Over many years, Diane served the SDAA with dedication, including roles on Council, a term as President, and many years as Secretary and competition coordinator. Her commitment helped shape the Association.

Together with her beloved husband Les, Diane worked tirelessly behind the scenes, supporting fundraising efforts, debutante balls, competitions and countless Association activities. Their contributions, warmth and generosity touched generations of dancers and families.

Diane often reflected that Highland dancing gave her far more than busy weekends and memorable adventures—it gave her lifelong friendships and a community she cherished.

Having been part of the SDAA for almost 50 of its 70 years, her dedication, humour and unwavering support leave a lasting legacy.

We thank Diane for her extraordinary service, friendship and commitment to Highland dancing. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 💜💚 | Ariana and Elaine were proud to be the first Premier dancers to represent Hay in a Champion of Champions event.

Competing in the Australian Championships, Gold Coast Challenge and supporting events of the Champion of Champions Gold Coast 2026, they are so pleased to be returning home with a collection of medals for their efforts.

Congratulations to both ladies - Ariana 5th place medal in the Australian Championship and Premier section dances and Elaine for her 5th place medals in Premier sections. We are so proud of you both! 💙🩵
