Confidence is built through doing, not getting it “right.”

This little Totoro started with a shared love of Studio Ghibli and a simple idea, “I want to make that.”

From there, it became a process of trying, adjusting, figuring things out, and keeping going. Stitch by stitch, it came together.

That’s what we’re really building. Not perfect outcomes, but the confidence to start, to stick with something, and to bring an idea to life in your own way.

And yes, discovering shared interests along the way is always a bonus.

What’s your favourite Studio Ghibli movie?

Not every idea follows a neat, predictable path.
Some zigzag. Some stall. Some look nothing like what was expected.

In many environments, that gets corrected.
“Do it like this.”
“Follow the steps.”
“Make it look like this example.”

Over time, that can teach children to second-guess themselves.
To look outward for answers instead of inward.
To play it safe.

In the studio, we do things differently.

We make space for their ideas, even when they’re unexpected.
We encourage them to try things their own way.
We support them to problem solve when things don’t go to plan, instead of stepping in and fixing it for them.

Because learning to think differently isn’t something to grow out of.
It’s something to grow into.

When children are given that permission, you start to see:

• More original ideas
• Greater confidence in decision making
• A willingness to take creative risks
• Stronger problem-solving skills
• Less fear of getting it “wrong”

They begin to trust themselves.

And that doesn’t just stay in the studio.

It shows up when they’re faced with a challenge
when they need to come up with a solution
when they’re deciding who they are and what they think

Being able to think differently and back yourself is a powerful thing.

That’s what we’re building.

Some children don’t thrive in step-by-step environments, and that’s okay.

Some need space to follow their own ideas. To be influenced by what they love, whether that’s anime, something they’ve seen online, or a style they’re curious about.

This piece came from exactly that.

A teen exploring oil pastels, trying new techniques, and figuring things out as she went. Not being told what to make, but being supported to bring her ideas to life.

That’s where the real growth happens.

When they’re given the freedom to experiment, take risks, and discover what works for them.

There’s something really special about having a place that feels like yours.

A place where you can walk in, take a breath, and just be.

One of our families described it as a space where their child can step away from everything else and let their ideas run wild.

That’s exactly what we hope this place becomes.

Not just a class.
A little pocket of space each week.

There is no pressure to perform here.

These watercolour techniques you’re seeing aren’t about getting it “right” or creating something perfect. They’re about learning how the material moves, how colours interact, and how to build confidence in small, manageable steps.

Our Skills Classes are designed to support this kind of learning. They give children the chance to slow down, practise specific techniques, and build their confidence with tools and materials.

But they don’t replace what happens in Creative Explorers.

Creative Explorers is where ideas take shape. Where children experiment, follow their own direction, and bring their thinking to life.

Skills Classes simply give them more tools to do that.

It’s the difference between knowing how something works… and having the confidence to use it in your own way.

Creativity doesn’t have to be fancy to be powerful 🌏

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating the beauty of using what’s already around us.

At Creative Makes, we love working with recycled, donated, unexpected, and found materials, not just because it’s sustainable, but because it opens up a whole new way of thinking.

A cardboard box becomes a sculpture.
Bottle tops become patterns.
Scraps become ideas.

There’s no template.
No “right way.”
Just possibility.

And when children create like this, something shifts…

They become more resourceful.
More imaginative.
More aware of the world around them.

They start to see potential where others might see waste.

Because creativity isn’t about having more, it’s about seeing more.

If you’d love your child to explore, create, and think differently, we’d love to welcome you into the studio.

If your child loves inventing creatures, drawing characters, or building their own worlds — this workshop is for them.

Creature Creators Club is a creative lab for children aged 5+, where ideas come to life through drawing, building, and clay.

Children can explore:

• Designing hybrid creatures
• Creating evolution charts and backstories
• Building habitats
• Drawing trading cards
• Sculpting creatures

But more importantly, here’s what they’re really learning:

• How to develop their own ideas
• How to think creatively and make decisions
• Understanding shape and structure
• Problem-solving through making
• Staying with an idea and growing it

This isn’t step-by-step or about copying.

It’s about imagination, ownership, and learning how creative thinking works.

Each child will leave with original creations — and the beginning of a world that’s entirely their own.

We’re building more than artists;
We’re shaping thinkers.

Children who question, explore, and follow their own ideas.
Who problem-solve, adapt, and make decisions with confidence.

Because what they’re learning here goes far beyond art.

It’s how to think.
How to trust themselves.
How to create their own path.

If that’s the kind of growth you want for your child, we’d love to welcome you in.

She came in for her very first class, looked around… and chose purple 💜

Not because anyone told her to.
Just because it felt right.

So she gathered, tested, placed, and stayed with her idea.

And in that process, she was:
• Making independent choices
• Building focus
• Strengthening fine motor skills
• Learning to follow her own ideas

At 3 years old, this is real learning.

Not copying.
Not rushing.
But thinking, exploring, and trusting herself.

This is where confidence begins
Where ideas start to take shape
And where children realise… they can create something of their own
