MAKE THE DETOUR. Out and about this weekend? Our Kew-Y-Ahn Aboriginal Gallery is open at Hartley Historic Site.

Work by Aboriginal painters, weavers, designers, jewellers and photographers from across the NSW Central West is represented in rotating exhibitions in the gallery space.

⌚10am to 4pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed for lunch 1-1.30pm). Closed Mondays.
📍NPWS Hartley Visitor Centre, 51 Old Great Western Highway (just off the Great Western Highway) Hartley (10 minutes east of Lithgow).

Arts Outwest and Kew Y Ahn Gallery will be at Penrith Regional Gallery this Saturday 13 June.

Drop by our market stall to buy art, jewellery, weaving and gifts by Aboriginal artists from the NSW Central West and try some fibre weaving.

MICROGRANT STORIES:
The second of the projects supported by the Arts OutWest Cultural Fund Microgrants is happening this weekend!

Let's Fly Small Residency - this week with Sue Healey.

"So thrilled to have received this grant from ArtsOutWest to bring some life into our Let's Fly - physical theatre work exploring the natural world of the Central west," says Watershed Dance Collective

Watershed Dance Collective is Julian Renlong Wong and Renata Commisso.

They're about to embark on a three-day residency with the critically acclaimed choreographer Sue Healey in Hartley village, developing Let's Fly! a new physical theatre work for young audiences.

Expressions of Interest // Calling for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visual artists from the Arts OutWest and South East Arts regions to undertake a paid residency.

Dedicated time and space for artists to develop their practice, build networks, and share skills across regions.

In 2026-27, one artist from the South East Arts region will undertake a residency at the The Squatters, Portland in the Arts OutWest region, while one artist from the Arts OutWest region will undertake a residency at Narra Bukulla, near Tanja on the Far South East Coast.

STUNNING weather yesterday for NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Hartley Discovery Day.

The whole historic precinct had a lovely, community vibe. Over 250 people came into the gallery.

Free open day: Sunday 3 May 2026, 9am to 3pm.

Paid guided tour times:

10am to 11am
11am to 12pm
12pm to 1pm
1pm to 2pm

Entry to the open day is free, guided walking tours are ticketed. Adult $15 per person. Child (5 to 16 years) $10 per person, children under 5 free. Concession $10 per person. Family $35 for 2 adults and 2 children.

Bring your family and friends to Hartley Historic Site on Sunday 3 May 2026 to enjoy a free open day for all ages. Come any time from 9am to 3pm to venture inside select historic buildings, browse local markets, get crafty in art sessions with Arts OutWest and bop along to live music.

If you’d like to go on a guided walking tour, you can also make a booking with a discovery ranger and learn about the rich and layered history of this small town. Discover its significant and sometimes colourful role in the growth of the NSW colony and early tourism in Australia.

Then wander through quaint shopfronts and get to know local business owners. Don’t miss the popular Postmistress Cafe and Store, Gold Rush Antiques, Talisman Gallery, and the Hartley Visitor Centre and Kew-Y-Ahn Aboriginal Gallery.

The outside grounds of Hartley Historic Site are dog friendly, provided dogs are always kept on a leash. Stretch your legs on the Rowsons River walking track or the Bells Rock Heritage walking track.

Be sure to book online to secure your place on one of the guided tours.
