Local Voices, Queensland Stories is a creative forum and showcase of creativity in the Gympie region, delivered in partnership with Creative Arts Gympie Region, Heart Of Gold International Short Film Festival and Regional Arts Services Network - RASN QLD .

Local Voices, Queensland Stories brings that statewide conversation to a local level by hearing directly from people who are creating work, developing careers and finding audiences from regional Queensland.

Dr Sharon Hogan is a playwright, director and Artistic Director and CEO of Gympie-based Perseverance Street Theatre Company , a professional regional theatre company creating new work like the recent production โ€˜Sistersโ€™ which toured to Brisbane and opportunities for Queensland artists and taking regional stories to audiences beyond the region to places like Nanango, Cairns, Bundaberg and Townsville.

Visual artist Innes Art has recently returned from Ireland, where 22.96 | Overflow was presented at Ballina Civic Offices in County Mayo. Developed from the 22.96 series responding to Gympie's devastating 2022 flood, the exhibition connected Gympie and Ballina through their shared experiences as river communities shaped by flooding, resilience, memory and recovery.
Innes' experience demonstrates how a story deeply grounded in regional Queensland can travel internationally and find meaning in communities thousands of kilometres away.

At the other end of the career spectrum, Gympie singer-songwriter Elke Louie represents an emerging generation of regional creatives. Louie released her debut EP Lavender in 2026 and is building an independent music career from regional Queensland.

Their song This Town is also at the centre of a collaboration with Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival, bringing young local filmmakers and musicians together to create a music video premiering at the forum.

Together, the three speakers provide very different perspectives on the same question: how do we ensure talented people can develop creative careers, tell their stories and find audiences while remaining connected to regional communities?

The event will provide an opportunity for local artists, creative practitioners, organisations and emerging creatives to connect, learn from one another and celebrate the work being produced in the region.
