AWARD NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
With the closure of festivals in 2020 and live music venue restrictions imposed by Covid, we are pleased to announce at long last, something exciting and positive for our industry!
Today we are announcing the fRETfEST ACHIEVEMENT AWARD which is an opportunity for independent singer songwriters to share important achievements and promote original music during these trying times!
Nominations are NOW OPEN and entries are easy. Simply add your list of achievements in a comment on this post before the closing date on 23rd January 2021. Entries can be submitted by any Australian citizen who lives here and this is for unsigned artists. Nominate yourself by simply compiling a list of all your achievements big or small, online or in person, so long as it actually happened it’s admissible. Make sure you include your name, your location and links to your music.
Eg, “Hi my name is Jack Smith and I’m an indie singer songwriter from Inglewood. Here is my list of achievements in 2020 plus some links to my music and videos.”
This is a genuine opportunity to promote your music here at fRETfEST via Facebook and all genres of music are eligible.
Naturally we’ll be screening the comments to eliminate any inappropriate language and bad taste comments will be deleted along with links to any inappropriate sites and so on. Trolling, threatening comments etc will result in blocks. So let’s keep it clean and enjoy the fun of this experience for the greater good.
Your list of achievements may include: live streaming, online concerts you organised, singles, Eps or albums you recorded, releases, collaborations with other songwriters, appearances on radio or tv, interviews, press publications you scored, competitions you entered, chart success or even the live gigs you actually played!
Only one entry per person will be counted but you can edit your comment if you make a typo or need to add something extra, provided you do it before the deadline on Saturday 23rd January.
Share this with your friends to help broaden your reach and the winner will be announced and have their name added to the fRETfEST TROPHY (pictured) in recognition of the most outstanding efforts during this past year.
Naturally we will be checking to verify any claims so please try not to tell any porky pies and remember honesty is always the best policy and the truth is always the best story.
Your comments and links will be PUBLIC, so be sure to limit your comments and only share content that is original music (no covers) and only give details that you are happy to share publicly.
Thank you

UNSUNG HEROES VIDEO LAUNCHED 🏴‍☠️
A local band has released a video praising the efforts of businesses that stayed open during the recent lockdown.
Al & The Buchaneers, from Tamworth, funded the video and recorded the song ‘Heroes’ by the late David Bowie, with support from Arts North West in Armidale.
Businesses across the New England North West submitted photos for the video and the project manager, Al Buchan, says he hopes the video goes ‘viral’.
‘We produced this video as a way of saying thank you, to all the workers who turned up when everyone else stayed safe at home. These people deserve our recognition.’ says Al.
‘The pandemic caused chaos, with concerns around even the most basic essentials, such as toilet paper. Still, a lot of people went to work every day to help maintain the services, supplies, technology and information we really needed and those people are the ‘unsung heroes of Covid-19’’ says Al.
The video has been released to the public this week on YouTube and the band is happy with the exposure they received through local radio and newspaper articles.
Well known Tamworth musicians, Phil Weaver, Steve Whitby and Paul Owen teamed up with Al Buchan to record the song which has spawned a new seventies rock tribute band, Al & The Buchaneers.
The song, Heroes, is available on all music platforms and the video can be viewed on YouTube using its title: Unsung Heroes 2020 NSW North West, by Al & The Buchaneers, or by clicking the link below:

The band is planning to launch at the 2021 Tamworth Country Music Festival in January with a CD now in production as well.
‘This is the perfect outcome’ says Al, ‘given that the aim of the funding was to activate local arts workers during the lockdown. It certainly did that; and then some! We couldn’t be happier with the result.’

Please share it far and wide!
Thank you
