In the aftermath of the flood, we found ourselves surrounded by our once-beloved possessions reduced to mere shadows of their former selves. Among the detritus, we gathered the remnants of our lives: the boots we wore through the rising waters, the toys our child cherished, the clothes that clung to us like a second skin, now sodden and stained. Floods affect everyone differently. My baby, my partner, and myself—we each experienced it uniquely. She was so small, held on our hips, curious about the water, the procession of hotel rooms, the caring ladies at the emergency evacuation centers, the confusion, and the anger.

Maybe she doesn't fully comprehend it now, maybe she won't remember it later...

This hope is where I find solace...
