Goulburn Lilac City Festival

Goulburn Lilac City Festival The Goulburn Lilac City Festival. Lilac Time - Australia's oldest continuous volunteer run festival.

Goulburn’s Lilac City Festival, established in 1951, occurs every October long weekend. The festival, one of Australia’s longest running, welcomes a myriad of food, flowers, festival markets, music, and heritage celebrations to Goulburn. A traditional shop-front competition will have the City’s Auburn Street dotted with lilac windows while the central Belmore Park will be green, blossoming and air

abuzz. Joyland carnival takes care of kids (and the young-at-heart) looking for their sugar, adrenaline and Dagwood-dog fix, while local musical acts fill the spring air with their serenades from the heritage rotunda.

Look at this wonderful donation we recently received! The photo was taken from the verandah of a family home along Auburn Street during the very first Lilac Time parade in 1952. We love all the little details in this photo; the flags, the gentleman sitting on the awning and the car parked in the alleyway. The 'Science through the ages' float is spectacular! Does anyone know what group or organisation made the float?
