Maverick song man Neil Murray was a founding member of the pioneering Warumpi Band, which in the 1980’s penetrated mainstream Australia with the iconic anthems My Island Home and Blackfella Whitefella

He is now a respected singer/songwriter, Good Light in Broome, Whispering Casuarina, Lights Of Hay and Broken Land are just some of the superb songs from the string of remarkable albums he has released. His latest album is The Telling- reviewed by Rhythms magazine as “singular and powerful…another fine collection befitting his immense reputation and legacy”
Accolades include the 2017 Port Fairy Folk Festival Artist of the year, the 1995 APRA song of the year award for My Island Home. The latter plus Jailanguru Pakarnu ( Out from Jail- a 1983 co-write with Sammy Butcher in the Luritja language) have been selected into the National Film and Television Sound Archive's Sounds of Australia Series.
His song writing is diverse and influential. Artists such as Mary Black, Jimmy Little, Missy Higgins, Powderfinger, Liz Stringer and Liam Gerner have recorded his songs. Always engaging live, Neil Murray's work has contributed substantially to Australia's contemporary music heritage. In April 2026 he released the single “ Still Here By My Side”. Don’t miss Neil Murray in intimate solo mode, performing landmark songs from a four decade career.

We celebrated the life and times of another wonderful friend today. RIP ROSE🌹🙏
The thing is.. we often hear the amazing experiences of our friends at their celebration of life… we are amazed by their journeys, unaware of their travels and incredible stories.
Crazy that we wait for their passing to be fascinated by all they have done.
Our friends ‘worlds’ are often fuller than we can imagine. We should try to appreciate them while they walk with us.
