We had last drinks at Banrock Station today. A sad day for the Riverland and broader SA, with the loss of an important, iconic venue for locals and visitors, with future lack of access to a Ramsar listed wetland, for education and learning.
For nearly 3 decades, Banrock has been our ‘local’. We’ve held countless functions there, including art exhibitions, book launches, environmental gatherings & causes, hosted school groups, meeting and conferences.
Like many others, we’ve enjoyed Banrock theme nights, live music and ‘Friday Wine Downs’. We’ve celebrated special occasions, like weddings & birthday parties, and Banrock has been our meeting place for family and friends.
Unfortunately, Vinarchy have made the business decision to close Banrock Station’s Wine and Wetland Centre, with today being its last opening day.
Banrock Station has been an important cultural meeting place for the community, & an environmental & conservation learning space.
We hope that in the future the wetland will again become assessable to the public, for walks, tours and ongoing environmental learning. We also hope that Vinarchy allow the opportunity for someone to reimagine the Wine and Wetland Centre, and that it may reopen in future. RIP Banrock.
