Sometimes we forget to stop and listen to the sounds around us. It is easy to capture a moment in a photograph, but what about capturing a moment in sound? We offer sound recording and sound editing workshops for children at school, after school and during holidays.
**Sounds in Nature - recording workshops**
The aim of this workshop is to provide learning opportunities for children that will inc
rease their understanding, appreciation and excitement for their local environment through 'sound walks', using recording equipment to capture their sound encounters. Sound walks will encourage children to observe and explore the local landscape with their ears, offering a new insight and connection to their local environment, both natural and manmade. Gabrielle, who is experienced in sound recording and creative sound design (and also loves nature and walking!) will assist the groups on their sound journey outdoors, using professional recording equipment, enabling the children to choose and record their own sounds as they go. Children will focus on team work, sharing and caring for each other and equipment, creativity, aural senses, note taking & drawing skills, time keeping and I.T skills (if computers are available).
**Sound Editing Workshops**
This additional workshop will encourage and teach children how to be creative with the sounds they have already recorded. The workshop will improve children’s access to the sounds of their local surroundings digitally, using I.T skills that they may be less familiar with. I.T skills will involve editing with Audacity Sound Editor and uploading sounds online to Aporee - a global soundmap - allowing sounds to be shared to friends, family and others around the world. Edited sounds will be added to a sound library that children can use for storytelling during or after the workshop. Lets get kids inspired and connected to nature through sound!
