For 30 years, Rugby League was where I hid. My identity

It became my way of suppressing emotions and distracting myself from what was really going on inside. From the outside, I looked strong. On the inside, I was fighting battles I didn’t know how to speak about.

Sixteen years ago, I came close to becoming another brother gone without answers. I truly believed the world would be better off without me. Looking back now, I realise I wasn’t weak—I was hurting.

Creativity saved my life.

Today, every piece I create carries a part of my journey. It’s more than artwork. It’s healing. It’s culture. It’s spirit. It’s truth.

I’m no longer afraid to share my story because I know someone out there might need to hear it. If my journey helps just one person feel seen, find hope, or choose to keep going, then every brushstroke has a purpose.

Today, I’m proud of my artwork.

But I’m even prouder of the man I’ve become.

A man who knows his worth.
A man who walks with culture.
A man who understands that our greatest strength isn’t hiding our struggles—it’s having the courage to face them.

Keep creating.
Keep healing.
Keep showing up.

Your story isn’t over yet. 🖤💛❤️

Creating Pathways 👣

This artwork tells the story of the Keebra Park community coming together. The central yarning circle represents a place of connection, where mentors guide and support our young people. Student footprints lead towards the circle, symbolising growth, learning and belonging.
The surrounding circles represent families, cultures and the wider school community, all connected through shared respect and support. Crows, a familiar presence at Keebra Park, symbolise wisdom, resilience and the ability to soar.
Together, the artwork celebrates the journey of mentors and students walking side by side, building strong connections and creating pathways for every young person to thrive.

Walking Together 👣

This artwork tells the story of connection, culture, and community. At its centre is a gathering place where people come together to share knowledge, stories, and support. The surrounding circles represent individuals, families, and communities connected through relationships built on trust, respect, and understanding.

The pathways flowing across the artwork symbolise life’s journey. They show people walking together, supporting one another through every stage of life. Footprints throughout the design represent shared experiences, learning from Elders, and passing cultural knowledge from one generation to the next.

The blue waterways reflect healing, wellbeing, and the life-giving connection to Country. They remind us of the importance of caring for people, culture, and the environment. Just as water connects different parts of the landscape, compassion and kindness connect members of the community.

The Southern Cross inspires the story, serving as a symbol of guidance, hope, and belonging. Like the stars that have guided people for generations, Southern Cross Care provides support, dignity, and direction, helping individuals remain connected to their families, communities, and cultural identity.

The artwork celebrates a shared commitment to walking together with respect, honouring diversity, embracing culture, and creating a community where everyone feels valued, cared for, and connected. It reflects the belief that when people walk together, guided by respect and care, stronger communities are built for future generations.

United in Culture 👣

At the centre of the design sits a large gathering circle, symbolising the Seagulls community. It represents players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, families, and Elders coming together with a shared purpose. Surrounding the centre reflects growth, strength, and the many generations who have contributed to the club’s success.

Surrounding the central gathering place are five connected community circles, proudly representing the club’s five premiership victories.

The footprints woven throughout the artwork tell the story of people walking together. They represent the journeys of players and families who have passed through the club, leaving their mark and helping guide the next generation.

Flowing lines across the design symbolise the waterways and coastal landscape of Runaway Bay. These pathways connect all gathering circles, reflecting the strong bonds between teammates, families, and the wider community.

Runaway Bay Seagulls remains strong while embracing and celebrating Indigenous culture.

Together, this jersey tells a story of five premierships, one club, one community, and many journeys connected through culture, respect, and family. It honours the past, celebrates the present, and inspires future generations to continue walking together as Seagulls.

When people see my work, they often see Indigenous artwork, Story telling, Culture, Strength.

But what lives beneath it, what Walkabout Warriors is born from, is far more personal.

My journey as an artist has moved through the highest highs and the lowest lows. I’ve lived with the harsh inner voice, the disappointment, the grief, and the deep ache of losing self-worth. Some days have felt like mountains without end.

To survive, my body and spirit learned patterns, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Those survival lines are woven into every piece I create.

I’ve come to understand depression not as weakness, but as the soul speaking:
I can’t keep being this version of you.

I am an empathic storyteller. When I hold someone’s story, whether my own, my people’s, or yours..I feel all of it. The joy, the pain, the heartbreak, the resilience. And as I create, our human similarities rise together. There is no separation. Only shared spirit.

So when you see my work, or when you connect with Walkabout Warriors, I want you to know:

You are not only seeing Indigenous art.
You are meeting the human being behind it.
The lived experience.
The healing.
The survival.
The spirit walk.

Nothing we live through is without meaning.
Everything becomes a lesson.

Every scar is story.
Every story is survival.
And survival is its own kind of beauty.
