Sweet Thunder Jazz Orchestra returns to GCCJC at Southport Bowls Club on Tuesday 7 July from 7 - 10pm for a sensational night of swinging big band music with a festive twist for our Christmas in July special!

Enjoy swinging versions of Christmas favourites including Sleigh Ride, Rudolph, Winter Wonderland and I’ll Be Home For Christmas, along with the band’s signature big band tunes.

With nine outstanding soloists, tight ensemble playing and incredible energy, this is a night not to be missed!

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of one of the finest musicians, Rick Best.

Rick was fundamental to jazz on the Gold Coast, creating Sweet Thunder and tirelessly supporting fellow musicians and the broader jazz community over many years. His talent, generosity, and passion for music left a lasting mark on so many people and helped shape the vibrant jazz scene we enjoy today.

He will be greatly missed by all of us at the Gold Coast City Jazz Club.

Our heartfelt thoughts and deepest condolences are with Rick’s family and loved ones at this very difficult time.
