Another one for the scrap pile, especially those long strips of patterned paper that you keep thinking, “I’ll use that for something”!

This time I’ve used them to create a Sunburst Technique, also often called a Starburst Technique.

I CASEd this version from my friend Anna Wheaton of Nudge Nudge Ink Ink, so full credit to Anna for the inspiration and measurements for this one.

For my version I used:

6 patterned paper strips: 12 cm × 4 cm

Card base: 14.8 cm × 21 cm, folded at 10.5 cm

Mat: 14.3 cm × 8 cm

Each strip is cut diagonally from corner to corner to create the triangles.

I marked the centre point along the bottom edge of the mat, then used that point as the guide for laying out each triangle to create the sunburst.

A little tip; make sure your adhesive goes as close to the edges of the mat as possible, because once all the pieces are in place, you’ll flip it over and trim away the excess.

I kept the finish on this one really simple and just added a butterfly.

Don’t throw that bit away! ✂️

Yesterday I used my cardstock scraps to create the colourful die-cut panel for my card — but of course, cutting it out left me with another piece covered in scraps.

And we’re supposed to be using our scraps this week, not creating more of them! 😂

So I trimmed around the leftover piece to create a frame and added it to Basic White cardstock for the inside of my card.

It gives me somewhere to write on the black card base, adds a little something to the inside and uses up even more of those scraps.

Sometimes the leftovers from one idea can become part of the next.

Got a pile of cardstock scraps you just can’t bring yourself to throw away? 🙋‍♀️

This week I’m sharing a few different ways to put those scraps to good use, starting with all those strips of cardstock that seem to accumulate in the scrap pile.

For this one, I cut my strips diagonally and alternated the pieces across a piece of Basic White before cutting the whole thing with the largest frame from the Flourish and Frames Dies.

✂️ A little trimmer tip: when you're cutting diagonally from corner to corner, try starting with your blade in the middle of the cardstock rather than at the very end. Cut towards one corner and then back through to the other. Those tiny pointed corners can catch or tear if you try to start the blade directly on them.

I finished the piece with the Rustic Check embossing folder, some gold ribbon and a hot-foiled Happy Birthday.

And there we go, scraps that might otherwise have sat in a drawer turned into the feature of the card.

September’s Product of the Month is Luxe Foliage Specialty Designer Series Paper

For this month’s Product of the Month Demo Council, Lisa Stenz and Kathy Ellerbusch Alt have created some beautiful projects using the Luxe Foliage paper, showing just how versatile it can be.

There’s plenty of shimmer and detail in this paper and I love seeing the different ways it can be used across the various projects.

I had some foil left over from my Celebrate pieces, so I put the Reverse Hot Foil Die to work!

Once I’d reverse foiled and cut out the sentiments, I had two different looks to play with using the Splash of Sparkles Specialty designer series paper/patterned paper.

One uses the softer pink side, while the other flips the DSP over to bring in the Balmy Blue, Bubble Bath and Silver Opal splashes.

Same elements, but a different look depending on which side of the paper you use.

I know which one I prefer…

Sometimes it just needs a little something…

When I added my foiled Celebrate to the card, it was getting a little lost against the background as I’d used the same Splash of Sparkles DSP (Designer Series Paper/patterned paper).

Rather than change the sentiment, I used the same die to cut a piece of Basic White cardstock, cut it in half and positioned the two pieces behind Celebrate, leaving just a little white showing above and below.

I used liquid glue to attach them so I had some wiggle room to get the positioning right.

A simple way to give a sentiment a little more definition without covering up too much of the background.

And I still had a couple more foiled Celebrate pieces to play with… so stay tuned to see what I did with those! 😊

Hot foiling with an embossing folder?!

I’ve been sharing a few different ways to use embossing folders lately, so when I saw Mary Ellen Stites from Create With M.E. share this technique with the Hot Foil System, I had to give it a try.

For my Floral Spray example I used:

Reverse Hot Foil Die

Silver Opal Foil

A piece of DSP (designer series paper/patterned paper)

Floral Spray embossing folder

6" × 6" pieces cut from the card backing sheet that comes in a pack of DSP

Green Hot Foil Shim

Note: I also placed some strips of paper over the exposed parts of the die and grey 'plate' of the machine to protect my embossing folder. I was just being cautious.

You will need to experiment with your sandwich. I found the number of pieces of backing card I needed varied depending on the embossing folder, so you may need to add or remove a piece to find what works for yours.

Most importantly, never force your sandwich through your Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine. If it doesn't go through comfortably, stop and adjust your shims.

I also tried the Fern and Flora embossing folder with the new green foil.

The Reverse Hot Foil Die, Silver Opal Foil and new foil colours will be available from 1 September.

Sometimes it's the little details that make the difference. ✂️

Torn edges or a little scissor distressing are two simple ways to add texture and interest when you don't want everything perfectly straight.

A little glimpse of the end of yesterday’s card classes.

Most of the cards were finished by this point, so there was plenty of chatting, catching up and comparing creations.

I really do appreciate everyone who comes along and supports my classes. And I love the little crafting community we’ve created.

And a special thank you to Karen for lending a hand yesterday. It was very much appreciated!
