🎨 Our monthly 4-hour portrait session with a live model is on again 28th June and I absolutely love these events!

It’s a little like Portrait Artist of the Year — you can work directly from the live model or take a photo and use it as your reference. Whether you're an experienced artist or have never picked up a brush before, everyone is welcome.

The best part? It's fantastic practice, lots of fun, and a wonderful opportunity to spend time with fellow art lovers in a relaxed and supportive environment with no tutoring.

You don’t need to be a member of the Royal Queensland Art Society, and you certainly don’t need any artistic experience. Come along, give it a go, and enjoy the creative atmosphere!

Bring your favourite medium and create however you like.

If you'd like to join us, let Jane know so she can reserve your spot.

I'll be there for sure and would love to see some familiar faces! 😊

The final varnish is on, and now this painting feels complete.
Not only does the varnish bring out the richness of the colours, but it also helps protect the artwork for years to come. I'm so happy with how this piece has turned out and can't wait to hand it over to its new owner. 😁🎨

I'm so grateful that Simone trusted me to bring her painting home for a little more work. One of the most important parts of the painting process for me is observation time. It's during this stage that I step back, assess the artwork with fresh eyes, refine the likeness, and make those final adjustments that help bring my vision for the painting to life.

Now it's time for the paint to dry, followed by a varnish, and then this special piece will be ready to head to its new owner.

The title was chosen by my wonderful model: "Moving Through Misery – The Final Chapter"

Last Sunday I attended a long pose life drawing session at the gallery and was lucky to work with a wonderful model who sat so patiently while we studied her features.

I chose oils as my medium of choice, as I love painting alla prima. After our four hour session, the model purchased two artworks, and I was incredibly honoured that one of them was mine. There is something very special about a model loving a painting enough to want it on their wall. ❤️

I wasn't quite happy with the likeness, so I asked to take it home and make a few refinements using a reference photo I took on the day. I can't wait to share the finished artwork with you soon. 😁

Tomorrow I'll be attending a Life Drawing session at the Royal Queensland Art Society (RQAS), and there are still a few places available. If any fellow artists are looking for something creative to do on a Sunday afternoon, get in touch with Jane to secure your spot.

I absolutely love these long pose sessions. With four hours to work from a wonderful model, there's plenty of time to really observe, connect, and create. You're welcome to use any medium you choose, whether that's oils, acrylics, watercolour, charcoal, graphite, or something else entirely. It's a fantastic opportunity to slow down, immerse yourself in the creative process, and enjoy the company of other artists. 🎨✨

Our epic holiday may now be over, but the memories we created will last a lifetime ✈️❄️🎨

One of the beautiful things about being an artist is how time seems to disappear when we’re doing what we love most… painting. While waiting at the busy Hong Kong airport, I found a quiet spot by the window with beautiful natural light and views to the very busy runway. I pulled out my little travel art kit and started painting some of the joy and adventures from our trip. Before I knew it, it was time to board the plane home.

I love painting, but capturing happiness, memories and emotion on canvas is even more rewarding 🥰

We’re finally home from our beautiful Canada holiday, and I’m so grateful I packed my handmade concertina sketchbook made from quality Arches watercolour paper. While travelling, I used some of the photos I captured along the way as references for small paintings inspired by the incredible scenery around us.

I could have painted them once I returned home, but creating them while actually being there made the experience feel so much more meaningful and special. Every painting now holds not only the image itself, but also the memories and emotions I felt during our journey through beautiful Canada. ❤️🎨

My final painting of Mount Rundle was inspired by the incredible view from Bald Patch on Mount Norquay.
This beautiful lookout has sweeping views over Banff, the mountains, and once again Mount Rundle revealing yet another completely different angle.
What made this experience even more special was sharing the area with the beautiful bighorn sheep quietly moving across the mountainside around us.

The next view of Mount Rundle was painted from the beautiful Bow River in Banff.
The reflections on the water were so still they appeared like a mirror image, creating such a peaceful and almost dreamlike scene. Moments like this make you stop in silence and simply take it all in.
Each little painting feels like a page of memories from this unforgettable family adventure through Canada.

My next painting takes us back to Vermilion Lake for yet another perspective of Mount Rundle.
This time I focused more on the dramatic ridges and layered rock formations that give the mountain its incredible character and strength. It’s honestly hard to believe this is the same mountain I painted in the earlier studies. Every angle reveals something completely new.
Zac and Shannon climbed these peaks last year 🏞🥰
