And here’s Ollie playing with an enrichment pole that we made with old drink bottles with a few holes in the side. A frame or two chairs would have been good to hold the ends of the rod but I had two trolleys handy so that’s what we used.

Enrichment rods are fabulous for using your pets brain and slowing down a feed. It took Ollie much longer to eat his handful of cat biscuits we used.

Our aim for enrichment activities is to make them enjoyable. Not every activity suits every learner - you’ll need to watch if your animals are enjoying the activity. If they get frustrated or don’t interact, it may be too hard (at this point in their learning).

We’re making an enrichment rod for Ollie which I think he will love. At the start I want him to get the idea of rolling the bottle to get his treat biscuits out so I’m starting with just the holey bottle and biscuits.

I think we can all agree he’s worked out this activity. Tomorrow, the enrichment rod!

Several of the enrichment activities, ask you to put holes in plastic bottles or plastic jars.

The easy way to do this is with circular end wood burning tool. The comically bad way to do this is with a power drill - I don’t recommend it!

Rock Melon is running the Savvy Enrichment tech show today with some quirky solutions: "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" "Take a nap, it helps!" and "Roll and chew on your keyboard to see what happens." It's shocking that Apple or Google hasn't scooped him up yet!

For those following Melon's journey, he’s set to have his troublesome eye removed next week. He’s been thriving, but that eye has been causing him discomfort. Thank you all for your kind wishes and support! ###X

Bubble wrap - irresistible even for little cats!

(Yes we are watching that little Melon doesn’t eat it)

Look at little Ace getting creative with toilet rolls! 🐾 Isn’t it amazing how versatile they can be? Just snip the ends like an octopus, stick it on the wall, and fill it with some yummy treats. Today, Ace has Tempters for a tasty surprise, but I could have totally put her breakfast biscuits in there too! 😸 Such a fun way to keep our furry friends entertained!

If you’re new to enrichment, you may be wondering where do I start ??

Start with one activity. That’s it - one activity this week.

Maybe it’s:
😺scatter feeding breakfast
🦜a forage box
🐶a sniffari
🐴a treasure hunt ( carrot hunting ).

Your pet doesn’t need perfection. They need opportunities to be a dog, cat, rabbit, bird, horse …..

One small activity is better than waiting until you have time to do everything.

Download www.savvyenrichment.com and choose that first activity!!

😺 + 🧻 + 🍗 = 🧩 + 😻
If you’ve got some treats and a toilet roll, you’ve got the makings for a fun puzzle feeder. It took Ace a few minutes to work this one out (no judgement please, we can’t all be geniuses like Ollie. She now gets very excited about rattling toilet rolls.
