Another little gem of a character I found in my daughters sketch book. I really admire the simplicity of how a child can approach the act of just drawing.

They don't over think it, they just instinctively pick up the colours they prefer in that moment and go for it!

Imagine just thinking about nothing else other than a rainbow coloured ice cream cat! ☺️🌈🍦🐱 She asked me to turn it into a pattern and here we are.

This month we were tasked with illustrating a gender neutral character.

Here we have Lex the Shark Nerd on their journey through the ocean discovering all types of sharks and fish.

These are some poses of Lex that I've found pockets of time to work on this month. It's been a very busy time for me this month but as the character bootcamp course comes to a close, I have managed to create some wonderful characters in the last 4 months that I'll be reworking in preparation for presentation of my online portfolio.

Can't wait to get stuck in!

I often get asked where the ideas come from, most of the time it's actually when I'm not really thinking at all, like when I'm in the shower or cooking or sleeping. But there are other times when I flip through my daughters sketch book and find gems like these! Looks to me theres a little author/illustrator in the making hehe.

Hope Berry brings you some joy today. 🍓 Maybe one day Berry may have their own story to tell.

I finished my first scene for "Escape to Dodo Island" written by when I was reading the text I instantly thought Florencia was playing and creating her own adventure at home. Keeping in mind this month I really focused on putting Florencia into a busy scene. So while this scene doesn't quite show her playing yet, the next one will. I thought of doing a pretend carboard cutout that she's setup in her backyard and turned into a spaceship.

How cute is little Toot! Although I don't think he's all that sensible. Silly bird. 🤭

This months toy assignment from was to design a toy case that was still in keeping with the story by
Since the story talks about Puff & Fluff on a quest for treasure, I thought it would be so cute if the case was to keep all your child's little treasures inside it.

My daughter loves makeup, jewellery and playing make believe with it all and thinking of that I knew she would love a jewellery / makeup case all kept in 1 spot.

I did change the style of how my two bunnies are drawn, the original version just wasn't going with this case so perhaps I'll draw more positions of them in this style. 😁

That's a wrap!...for now...Puff & Fluff 🐰🐰 a story written by I had a lot of fun with this first double page spread assignment for I do intend on illustrating the rest of the text and creating a cover too, I have so many ideas I need to get out of my head for these 2 cute rabbits!

For now I'm submitting this one and getting on with next toy assignment. Eeek! So much fun! 🤗

Coco Moloko plushie keyring, this was the next assignment set by for this month, to turn the character we created earlier in the month into a plushie toy of our choice. I had a longggg meeting with my 7 year old about this and asked her what she would like me to make her, her response was, "I want something to hang off my school bag!" and here we are! 🤗 Coco comes complete with her own mini school bag, an eraser and scratch and smell stickers. 💗🍩

My little Coco Moloko is the first character assignment we were given as part of Character Play bootcamp. We were given a short text written by and asked to create a donut that resembled a 5 year old. My initial donut character was drawn as a 7-10year old, I've made some changes to reflect the younger age group...cherry pig tails, wafer bow, tiny roller skates because she's so cool and confident and just rolls with it and of course her big eyes.
