Crayfish have moved in - this plating acropora that we planted in 2015 as a 3cm frag is now big enough to be a crayfish hotel.

Here are the photos that go with our previous video post 😀

Today we did an art collaboration - WA glass artist Sabrina Dei Guidice asked us if we could grow coral on her beautiful pieces and we said sure, let’s give it a go. (I will have to post photos separately as I can’t put videos and photos on at the same time!)

The Basile family diversified their crayfishing business a decade ago to become coral farmers at the Abrolhos Islands. The punt has paid off.

Cyclone Seroja sideswiped Geraldton last Sunday night - luckily we had minimal damage on our property -just a few trees down and a solar panel flew off (it landed upside down, didn’t smash). We were well prepared with heaps of fuel for the generator knowing the power could be out for some time. Monday morning we gave our extra fuel to some police who drove through the night trying to get to the most affected area one hour drive north of us as the whole internet system was down which meant no eftpos (so much for a cashless society). Four days without power so the generator (with many extension cords) powered our pumps, fridge and freezer (but not tank lights, dosing pumps or skimmer) and surprisingly we only lost two anemones. We had no damage at our island base either so good news for us. Our thoughts are with the towns and farms just north and east of us that got hit hard and now need to rebuild. xx
