Mooditj_Djet Designs Emerging Noongar/Yamaji artist residing in Yamaji country

19/02/2026

We’re delighted to announce Marianne Penberthy and Yamaji Art with Nicole Monks as the selected recipients of the 2026-27 Artist in Residence Program.

These funded residencies with the Museum of Geraldton support artist-led research projects that engage deeply with museum collections and the local community.

Marianne Penberthy's residency will respond to the collection from her perspective as a person living with vision impairment.

Yamaji Art / Nicole Monks will deliver a culturally-led residency focused on reconnecting with Yamaji cultural belongings and archival records.

I've got exciting news I’ve been bursting to share!

I was recently approached, and I’m incredibly proud to announce that I will be exhibiting one of my recent body adornments at Midland Junction Arts Centre!
This piece will be featured as part of an absolutely stunning exhibition called Djoowak Moordidjabiny - Generations becoming stronger, curated by the wonderful Candice Nannup.

This exhibition 'showcases Yamaji and Noongar women artists working with textiles and fibres. Through weaving, stitching and dyeing, their works carry stories of ancestry, resilience and connection to Country — celebrating fibres as a powerful medium of memory, creativity and cultural strength across generations.'

I can’t wait to share the story and full shots of the adornment soon, but in the meantime, here’s a little close-up sneak peeks!

If you want to know more about the exhibition dates and the other talented artists involved, you can find all the information on their website.

The Noongar Season ‘Djeran’ is represented by the colour green as it is the time of the year where the cooler weather begins. Djeran season sees a break in the really hot weather. A key indicator of the change of season is the cool nights that bring a dewy presence in the early mornings.
As the season progresses, the nights will become cooler and damp. The onset of cool and rainy days meant that traditional mia mias (houses or shelters) were repaired and updated to make sure they were waterproofed and facing in the right direction in readiness for the deep wintery months to come.
