Geraldton Turf Club

Geraldton Turf Club The Midwest's premier race track and the home of the Geraldton Gold Cup and Batavia Sprint.

The Geraldton Turf Club is one of the oldest established race clubs in Western Australia commencing racing in 1861 and it celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2012. The Geraldton Racecourse is found 435kms north of Perth on the Western Australian coastline overlooking the ocean. The circuit usually holds 19 meetings annually from October to April. Our feature races are the Geraldton Gold Cup and Ba

tavia Sprint which runs between the Pinjarra and Bunbury Cups at the end of March. Geraldton racing has a connection with many outstanding racehorses over many years including Perth Cup winner Ghurkha, Karrakatta Plate winner Rare Sovereign, WA Derby winner Beaujolais Boy, Belle Bizarre winner of the Railway Stakes and Luckygray dual winner of the Railway Stakes in 2011 and 2013, and Tapdog winner of three Geraldton Gold Cups. Geraldton Racecourse or Utakarra Racecourse as it’s also known is one of the more prominent tracks used in Western Australia. While it may not be a major metropolitan venue like Ascot, Geraldton Racecourse is vital for the West Australian racing industry. Like many racetracks of similar size the community feel of Geraldton Racecourse is part of what keeps it going strong. Geraldton itself is a spectacular seaside community approximately 4.5 hours to the north of Perth. The new Geraldton Racecourse was officially opened in 2001 where there has been a $2 million transformation to the facilities of the Utakarra course boasts a facility that provides Canteen/Takeaway, Cafe, Catering, EFTPOS, Members Facilities, Tentland, Disabled Parking & Disabled Toilets. We pride ourselves on being a significant provider of community involvement, as well as guaranteeing a great time at the races for anyone.

Congratulations to the connections (which there are many) of Scurgeofthewest who won the Leading Horse Award for the 2025/26 season. Trained by Tony Scally
Scurgeofthewest won five races for the season, winning the award on countback from Cantilever.
Scurgeofthewest is named after one of the characters of not only Geraldton racing but Geraldton sport in general, Craig 'Scurge' Butler who would be looking down with pride on his namesake, no doubt having a beer and that deep laugh celebrating along. Every win is an emotional time for all his friends involved with Scurgeofthewest.

The Geraldton Turf Club would like to congratulate Jefferson Tsang on winning the Leading Apprentice Title for the 2025/26 racing season.
Jefferson rode 8 winners through the season including two doubles and had a great association with Sneaky Session, winning consecutive races.
From Hong Kong, Jefferson is in the care of top local trainer Simon Miller. He is apprenticed to legendary trainer David Hayes and is in WA for 2 years to hone his riding skills. He has the rare honour of riding world champion sprinter Kai Ying Rising, having ridden him in an official barrier trial.
We wish Jefferson every success going forward, he is a credit to both Simon Miller, David Hayes and all who helped him on his journey.

The Geraldton Turf Club would like to congratulate Natasha Faithfull on being the Leading Jockey for the 2025/26 season.
It was an enthralling battle with Laqdar Ramoly with one point separating them in the end, with the result not known till the last race of the season.
This is Natasha's second leading jockey award after winning the previous year.
Natasha has had a stellar season in Geraldton not only winning Leading Jockey, riding 17 winners, she also rode to victory Supersession in the Batavia Sprint and capped the season off with a victory on Royal Law in the TABtouch Geraldton Gold Cup.
Unquestionably one of the hardest working jockeys in WA, Natasha brings great professionalism to her role. You are always welcome in Geraldton and we wish you continued success.
