Final week to have your say on the Western Region Sustainable Water Strategy

There is still time to provide feedback on the Western Region Sustainable Water Strategy Scoping Paper and help shape the future of water management across Victoria’s west.

The strategy will consider a broad range of current and future water needs, including:
✅ Cultural values and connections to water
✅ Environmental outcomes
✅ Community needs
✅ Agricultural productivity
✅ Industrial and economic growth

Input from communities, Traditional Owners, stakeholders and sector partners will help ensure the strategy responds to the challenges ahead, including climate change, changing water availability and population change.

Consultation closes on 23 August 2026.

We know people care deeply about wildlife and want to help when they see an animal in distress.
Injured wildlife may still need rescue and care, but if birds or wildlife appear sick, or dead, avoid contact and report it so trained responders can safely assess the situation.
Your report could help detect disease early and support our wildlife.

🌿 الجنية فتوحة: حكاية عن غابات القرم
فتوحة فتاة صغيرة تعيش وحدها في جزيرة من جزر القرم في أم القيوين، بعد اختفاء أبيها في ظروف غامضة. تكبر بين أشجار القرم والطيور والبحر، فتصبح الطبيعة مدرستها. تتعلّم من الغابة والطيور، ومن البحر تتعلّم الإبحار ومعرفة الوقت وتحديد المكان، مستعينةً بعلوم الملاحة التي عرفها البحّارة العرب الأقدمون، والتي علّمها إياها والدها قبل اختفائه.
تنشأ بين فتوحة والطبيعة علاقة عميقة، وبمساعدة الشجرة الأم تعبر إلى أرض البشر، حيث ترى حياة المدن بعيون الغريب، وتكتشف عالماً مختلفاً بما يحمله من جمال ومآسٍ وتناقضات. تعود من رحلتها أكثر وعياً بقيمة عالمها، لتصبح حاميةً لغابات القرم والطبيعة التي كانت بيتها ومدرستها.

يسعدني إعلان نشر القصة باللغة العربية عن معهد الشارقة للتراث، وستكون متاحة خلال معرض الشارقة الدولي للكتاب 2026 في مركز إكسبو الشارقة، من 4 إلى 15 نوفمبر 2026.
