Gather slowly, and step into a space where making becomes listening.

Indigenous Grass Terrarium Making | SAT 13 JUN 11:00AM

In this workshop, you’ll create a living terrarium inside a delicate glass orb layering earth, moss, and Indigenous grasses to form your own self-contained ecosystem. Guided through the process, you’ll learn how to build and care for a miniature world that continues to grow beyond the day.

Led by Britt Silvester ( ) you will work with natural fibres and locally sourced materials, this is a tactile, meditative experience. An invitation to connect with Country and carry a small, living artwork home to remind you of caring for our larger environment.

→You can book for this workshop using the link in our bio or through our website.

$30 for 30 Years of Creativity at Platform Arts

Platform Arts is approaching our 30th anniversary; celebrating 3 decades of creativity in Geelong.

We’re not just celebrating the past—we’re building what comes next.

We’re aiming to raise $10,000 to support new artist opportunities, commissions, and programs as we enter our next chapter.

Make a tax-deductible donation before June 30 and help shape the next 30 years.

Every contribution matters - whether it’s $30, $300, or more.

If this organisation has ever been part of your story—as an artist, participant, audience member, or supporter—we’d love you to be part of this moment.

→You can use the link in our bio or head to our website to donate.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May–3 June.

National Reconciliation Week is a time to listen, learn, and reflect on the shared histories and cultures that shape our communities, while considering how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

This year’s theme, All In, asks us to think about how reconciliation can be practised every day - through reciprocity, accountability, and the actions we take within our own communities.

At Platform Arts, we are committed to fostering a local arts ecology that supports First Nations artists and their practices. We are currently incredibly privileged to present Yarrangany in Gallery One.

Curated by Jessi Rebel, Yarrangany brings together the work of 11 First Nations artists, inviting reflection on how we belong; to land, to story, and to each other, and how these connections continue to transform in a changing world. The exhibition creates a shared space for visibility, dialogue, and connection, where roots intertwine and new growth emerges.

We invite you to visit Gallery One and experience the exhibition during National Reconciliation Week.

Britt Silvester is one of the artists featured in Yarrangany.

Britt Silvester is a contemporary artist whose work draws deep inspiration from the natural world and Indigenous cultural heritage. A multidisciplinary sculptural artist based in Torquay on Wadawurrung Country, Victoria, with proud Yorta Yorta ancestry, her practice reflects a strong connection to land, sea, and storytelling.

Through her work, Britt explores materials and forms that speak to environmental themes and ancestral knowledge, weaving cultural memory with contemporary visual expression.

Britt will also host an Indigenous Grass Terrarium Making Workshop on Saturday 13 June. Create a living terrarium inside a delicate glass orb, layering earth, moss, and Indigenous grasses to form your own self-contained ecosystem.

‘JOY WORK’ in Desperate Times | FRI 29 MAY 9:00AM–4:30PM

In this interactive workshop, Dr Jen Rae and Claire G. Coleman from the Centre for Reworlding will share their unique approaches to art and climate adaptation working with communities, artists, local government and emergency services in disaster preparedness rehearsals and labs.

Failure, risk, experimentation and play become ‘learning together’ ingredients for navigating complexities and unknowns. Grounded in First Nations knowledge systems, their work addresses decolonisation, intergenerational justice, and resilience, offering insight into how creative methodologies and speculative futuring can support communities to form deeper transdisciplinary collaborations focused on disaster preparedness and resilience…where we might find ‘joy work’ in desperate times.

Spots are limited, register using the link in our bio and on our website.

Introducing another artist from our current exhibition, Yarrangany,

Kiri Tawhai is a multimedia artist, curator, mentor, and the founder of Djinang Aroha, a First Nations–run arts-based wellbeing business rooted in play, connection, and healing. Kiri is a proud Noongar, Ngāpuhi, and Ngāti Tūwharetoa woman raised on Yaburara Country.

Through her creative practice, Kiri explores Country, ancestral songlines, storytelling, and collective pathways—a practice she has shared via collaborative works exhibited in Tokyo, and a landmark solo exhibition, ‘Dabakan Koorliny (Walk Slowly)’, at Geelong's Murran Hub. As founder of Djinang Aroha—Djinang meaning ‘to look or see’ in Noongar language and Aroha the Māori word for ‘love/soul/breath’—Kiri leads workshops that foster healing, connection, creative play, and sharing First Nations Knowledge.

On Friday 8 May, we opened our newest season, Yarrangany curated by Jessi Rebel.

Gallery One was filled with community members who joined us for the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Welcome and Ochre Ceremony, along with performances by Thaedra Frangos and Karlia May.

Yarrangany, meaning roots, invites reflection on how we belong, to land, to story, to each other, and how those connections continue to transform in a changing world. Yarrangany seeks to create a shared space of visibility, dialogue, and connection, where roots intertwine, and new growth emerges.

The exhibition and public programming will be running until the 11th of July.
