Red Rum Film Society

Red Rum Film Society Red Rum Film Society screens films for members on the first Tuesday of the month at Beav's Bar, Geelong, starting at 7.30pm.

Red Rum Film Society presents a different flavour of film society for Geelong screening interesting, independent, alternative, foreign, classic and lesser-known films, as well as some other movies we hope you'll like. We love films and are sometimes disappointed that some of the more interesting ones being released just weren't making it to our town ...or not staying long enough for us to catch at

the bigger cinemas. So we decided to bring those films to us through the film society and that's when Red Rum was born. It's a friendly, relaxed place to come and see a good film...or at the very least, see something different...and isn't that the point? We'd love you to come join us for the next film night - grab a couch and a glass of wine and see something different!

So long, farewell, auf weidersehen, goodbye

After ten years of films, couches, glasses of wine, friendship and quite a bit of cheese, Red Rum Film Society has screened its last movie.

To all the members, friends and visitors, thank you for coming along each month to watch, discuss, dissect, question, ponder, laugh at, be surprised by, sing along to and love (and sometimes hate) these movies that we were allowed to bring to you. It was always our great privilege to be able to share something we love with you.

Red Rum was, rather selfishly, invented as a way for us to see the kinds of films we wanted to see, right here in our town, but magically and very unexpectedly, became so much more than that...and you are all to blame! Thanks everyone.

is an amazing new documentary that follows 2 amateur adventurers as they journey 4000km across Australia in microlights. There is a special premiere planned to take place in Geelong on Thursday 25th, 6.30pm - but in order for the event to go ahead the filmmakers need 29 more tickets to be sold. Get on board and support this independent Aussie film. It’s been getting rave reviews! Book here: http://motorkitedreaming.com/screenings/

The Melbourne International Film Festival is giving Red Rum Film Society members the chance to win a double pass to see NEON this Saturday 12 September at 5.30pm.

TO WIN: one of five double passes, email [email protected] with the subject NEON by 3pm Friday 11 September.

NEON
Saturday 12 September, 5.30pm
Geelong Performing Arts Centre, 50 Little Malop Street Geelong

A sustainable source of illumination, a creative inspiration and a fading craft, neon shines in Lawrence Johnston's latest film.

Lawrence Johnston has long been obsessed with neon. Although his award-winning film Eternity (MIFF 1994) was about Arthur Stace's handwritten signage, Johnston managed to sneak footage of neon signs throughout. Neon also features in Night (MIFF 2007), and while filming Fallout (MIFF 2013), the director made a special trip to Las Vegas to visit neon museum The Boneyard.

It was there that Johnston decided to make a film celebrating the beauty and romance, the art and science of neon: visually stunning, one of the most environmentally friendly forms of lighting ever made, and endangered – LED is slowly but surely taking its place around the globe.

Vivid, beautiful and insightful, the MIFF Premiere Fund-supported Neon is the story of this noble element that has so profoundly coloured the modern world.

Giveaway time!

Did you know that is travelling to Geelong? The MIFF travelling showcase is heading to the Geelong Performing Arts Centre for the weekend of 11-12 September and we are lucky enough to have 2 double passes for our members for the Friday night screening of 'Results', starring Guy Pearce.

All you have to do to win is be a current Red Rum member and write me your best haiku about Red Rum. I'll pick out 2 winners to each receive a double pass. Please make sure you are available to attend on Friday the 11th Sept and you get your syllable count right...nothing worse than sloppy haiku.

More details about what's showing as part of the showcase available from MIFF or GPAC

Hey All Red Rummers...Have you checked out the amazing films being screened at Geelong's newest cinema, The Pivotonian Cinema? One of the films now showing is The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby in both the 'Him' and 'Her' versions. The Pivotonian is one of the few cinemas in the country screening the film in its two separate versions (as the Director intended it to be seen, rather than the more common 'Them' version). It's so great to have a place in Geelong that loves films as much as us and wants to bring you movies that you won't ordinarily see at the big blockbuster cinemas. As a treat for Red Rum members, any member who would like to see The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby can show their Red Rum member card and get in for just $10 concession! This is only valid for this movie and only until it finishes so hurry in and check it out!
