It's 1 June and it's cold and dark and feels like 1 degree and pouring and freezing and cold and we are wusses.

There are so many items I can make from these strip sets that it's hard to decide! And there's enough fabric to make several pieces.

They'll be pieced into patchwork squares, and the colour combo is giving coastal vibes.

Stay tuned to see how they turn out!

The second sashiko project - a sampler - being washed, plus a few points from a YouTube clip (link below) from about reusing kimonos.

This sampler is a combination of Moyouzashi (continuous line) and Hitomezashi (worked on a grid), purchased from in Hobart.

SO RELAXING! It's a craft that doesn't take long to learn, but there is such a rich history tied into Japanese culture, recycling and fabric that it's easy to get lost down that rabbit hole.

The beauty is in the imperfection, which I love, and we could take a lot from the mending and reuse philosophy.

I've also linked the first reel with another pattern, if you're interested. But be warned it doesn't take long to go from 'interested' to 'addicted!'

One of the sashiko samples I picked up from in Hobart recently.

This is a Moyouzashi, or continuous pattern from Daruma in the Asagao - Morning Glory - design. I love how it's come out with the rainbow variegated thread!

I highly recommend visiting this store if you're into sashiko (or yarn - it shares a space with , which also has beautiful items!) or online. I also picked up some grid-dotted fabric, some gorgeous sashiko threads, a book, and a few other items!

I'm loving the sashiko journey so far, and this sampler, worked with a long needle and a special thimble, was ideal for practising straight lines asa a beginner.

Another video with my second sampler coming up soon!
