This exhibition continues my journey to express a sense of wonderment for the beauty and chaos around us and within us.
Created from my deepest inner self and painted entirely intuitively, they are all about wild places in nature that I love, Thompsons Pool, Chapmans Pool, Ellensbrook Beach and others.
They are also inner expressions of my feelings of my worry about how we are treating nature and threatening disaster and the need to return to that child like sense of reverence for nature we can all remember from childhood if we are to avoid catastrophe.
They are also a comment on art history and the purpose of art. I see myself following in the footsteps of Joan Michell and Cy Twombly. I see myself digging deep, seeking the magic of painting emotionally and exploring the ways chaos and anarchy can produce a sense of stillness and serenity amongst it all. If we can trust ourselves, trust our inner child, to guide us and show us the way to inner peace.
In this sense they are prayers and the works are religious, though I follow no religion.
The shown works are drawn from recent collections, “Resonance”, “Awakening the Inner Child”, “Awe and Wonder” and my current ongoing series “Rewilding”.
I have been an exhibiting artist for 33 years, a full time artist more than twenty years. These days I have no great desire to sell my paintings. I’m more interested in hoarding them for posterity. However but I’m happy to use my art to raise awareness about issues and support good causes. So please come along and support this exhibition to raise funds to help people use art to help them with their mental health. 40% of the sale price of all originals sold during the exhibition will be donated to Richmind WA, WAs largest mental health service provider, to fund their Heart & Soul Art Therapy program.
I’ll also have some of my books available to buy and you can also order prints of paintings from the show.
