This time next weekend is the Brisbane Vegan Expo! I’ll be there on Sunday to perform a fun show for the kids at 11am and I’ll have a stall with my book and some other creative things I have been up to 💚

So this week was the deadline for the Brisbane Portrait Prize and it is my first ever submissions to a portrait exhibition 😬
One is a pastel of “Carol”. The other is of Margaret Schofield 🩵
If I don’t make it this year I’ll try again next year 🤗 🍀
Hopefully you will see them on the walls of Brisbane Libraries later this year 🤞🏼

“Enlightened Lily”
Painted this watercolour some years ago at a weekend workshop.
We were supposed to do seascapes but I diverted and this happened. I had just learned a meditation so I think I was taken over by my deeper subconscious 🤗
It won an award at the as “Highly Commended” in 2004

My beautiful mum passed away New Year’s Eve 2023. The last few months of her life I started painting silly freehand portraits of her with just some watery acrylics on a brush on bad paper …not knowing how special they would become. They were painted with laughter, love and not trying to make things perfect. The first one I just put some smoke on it at the end which made her belly laugh…so I continued because I loved hearing her laugh.
I called them “The Smoking Series”. She would then be confused by them and ask…”Why am I smoking?” and
“Is this really me?” ….forgetting the moment of laughter we had when I had initially showed her because of her dementia.
Painting with mum in the last years of her life was so special.
