Now that the festive season is over, it's time to travel Japan with Helga Jermy.
Fellow-poet Kim Nielsen-Creeley will launch Helga's beautiful new book, which gives you Japan as you've never seen it before. "Following the Ink" is a zuihitsu: a Japanese literary form that traces its origins back to the 10th century "Pillow Book". The zuihitsu is a kind of lyric essay—fragmentary discontinuous and improvisational, it is artfully imperfect, a response, neither too shapely nor too finished, to the nature of the real, the impermanence, wild order, and incompleteness of the world in human experience. Could there be a better way to document the experience of the sensitive, curious and intelligent traveller?
You are invited to join Kim and Helga for an afternoon of poetry from, and conversation about, this fascinating book--and a glass of wine and nibbles--at RANT Arts in Devonport.
