The need for connection, belonging, and creative expression has never been greater.

This EOFY, Footscray Community Arts is asking for your support.
Help us keep Community First & Creativity Always by donating before June 30 via the link below.

For more than 50 years, we have been a place where artists and communities create side by side, sharing stories, building trust and strengthening community through creativity. By giving to FCA today, you will help us create the time, space and support needed for artists and local communities to continue coming together and make meaningful work.

If you're looking for another reason to give, with thanks to Creative Australia’s Plus1 program, all leadership donations will be matched, dollar for dollar. This means double the opportunities, double the impact.

Pictured is ‘In Place’ by Na Djinang Circus, a striking performance at Footscray Community Arts as part of Melbourne Fringe, 2024. A powerful example of artist and community collaboration, the premiere of this work was the culmination of a year-long development that blended acrobatics, durational community participation, environmental storytelling and deep listening to Country.

Over the 12 months prior to the premiere of 'In Place', local participants nurtured native plants, growing in tandem with the artists. These plants then became woven into the final performance, showing us what is possible when artists and communities are given the time and space to create together.

This End of Financial Year, Footscray Community Arts is raising $20,000 before June 30 to support the spaces, programs, and artists that keep this place alive.

For more than five decades, we have been a home for bold ideas, local voices, and community-led creativity in Melbourne’s west.
What’s behind our historical success? One thing: people choosing to support us.

Your donation will help us:
• Support local artists and creative development
• Deliver free and accessible public programming
• Sustain First Nations-led and community-led projects
• Maintain spaces where people feel welcomed and represented
• Continue creating opportunities for communities too often excluded elsewhere

At a time when many creative spaces are becoming harder to sustain, your support will help ensure Footscray Community Arts remains accessible, community-led, and deeply connected to Melbourne’s west.

Thanks to the support of Creative Australia and their Plus1 program, every eligible leadership donation made to Footscray Community Arts will also be matched – turning your contribution into twice the support for community-led creativity.

Donate now via the link in our bio.

Ahead of tomorrow’s previews, hear from the team behind The Supposed To Be - a sharp, surreal sci-fi work by Chenturan Aran unpacking migrant expectations, inherited baggage and the terrifying possibility of your clone knowing your browser history.

Joined by former Footscray Community Arts producer turned stand-up menace Urvi Majumdar, this interview reel dives into the strange, funny and painfully real world of the show ahead of the performance season.

The Indigenous Advisory Group is now named the Indigenous Leadership Group.

The change reflects what’s always been true. This longstanding group does far more than advise. It leads with cultural knowledge, lived experience and accountability to community.

Recognised in our Constitution and central to who we are, the Indigenous Leadership Group continues to shape Footscray Community Arts across programming, strategy and community connection; helping us keep community, cultural agency and First Nations at the centre of the work.

The Australian Government is developing a new National Cultural Policy to shape the future direction of the creative and cultural sector. You can make a submission now! Join us in calling for increased recognition of and support for Community Arts and Cultural Development. For more info, visit https://hubs.li/Q04gbGgB0

Image description:
The visuals expand on Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD) and its role in delivering the REVIVE vision - “a place for every story, a story for every place.”

CACD is described as relational infrastructure that supports vibrant cultures, equitable and safe communities, stronger democracy, sustainable environments, and resilient local economies through long-term, place-based creative practice.

Despite its impact, CACD remains under-recognised and under-resourced, receiving only 5–6% of national arts investment through Creative Australia.

The images call for:
- formal recognition of CACD in the new Cultural Policy
- a national CACD entity within Creative Australia
- increased investment in community-based arts and culture
- better support for practitioners and future generations
- long-term funding models instead of short-term project funding
- integration of CACD across health, education, justice, climate and regional development
- stronger research and evaluation
- equitable access to resources and participation

Submissions to close 11:59pm, 24 May 2026.
