Happy International Le***an Day!

Today we’re celebrating le****ns, le***an joy, creativity, culture and community, and the countless ways le****ns have shaped q***r culture and the world around us.

From the first Le***an Day March in New Zealand in 1980 to the communities, artists, musicians and storytellers creating space today, this is a day to celebrate our history, honour those who came before us and make plenty of room for the le****ns of today and tomorrow.

At Love Shack, we’re proud to be a q***r-owned studio where everyone can bring their whole self, make their art and take up space.

So here’s to le***an joy, loud voices, big dreams and a community that keeps creating. Have a beautifully sapphic International Le***an Day Lovers!

We’re beyond delighted to have this beautiful new artwork by our dear friend Aden Senycia, ‘Before the Continents Split’ (2), gracing the studio walls.

We miss having Aden as a permanent fixture at the Love Shack, lending his creative brain and kind and grounding presence to recording projects, studio builds and whatever else we’re cooking up! And of course we miss his irl friendship too. But knowing he’s over in WA, painting up a storm and doing his thing makes us pretty damn happy!

So having this beautiful piece of Aden’s work here with us feels pretty special. A little bit of Aden still hanging out at the Shack.

Such a pleasure to have Workfriend back at Love Shack earlier this week, with Jono Tooke (Cry Club) behind the desk as session engineer/producer.

We’ve been working with Jasper Evans for years now, and it’s always a joy to have him in the studio. Every session is a great reminder of why we love what we do.

Workfriend’s 13-track album, Until It Hurt and Then Some, will drop this Monday. Recorded at home, alone, during lockdown, it's a slowcore alt folk saga with a few special orchestral moments that will give you the absolute chills.

Today is International Non-Binary People’s Day, a day to celebrate, uplift and recognise non-binary people, while raising awareness that gender exists beyond the binary of male and female.

At Love Shack Studios, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, respected and safe to create. We’re proud to be a space where q***r artists can show up as their authentic selves, free from judgement.

To our non-binary community, and to all our q***r kin, you are valid, you belong, and your stories deserve to be heard, always.

A few weeks back, Jess Bennett was honoured to be part of the Safe Spaces panel at the Music Producer and Engineers' Guild (MPEG) Forum alongside such an inspiring group of people working to make our industry more inclusive, creative and welcoming.

A huge thank you to MPEG for the invitation, and to moderator Tim Shiel for leading such a thoughtful conversation.

Jess had the absolute privilege to share the stage with:

Candice Lorrae - Jawoyn and Kala Lagaw Ya artist, producer and founder of the newly opened Candy Suite Studio at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre, creating a culturally safe recording space for First Nations women and gender-diverse artists.

Craig Pilkington from Audrey Studios, who unknowingly played a small part in Jess’ own journey… before moving from WA to Victoria to study Audio Production, they actually reached out about doing an internship at Audrey Studios.

Magoo (Lachlan Goold), whose incredible career includes producing artists such as Midnight Oil, Regurgitator, Kate Miller-Heidke and Powderfinger.

And a massive thank you to the legendary Anna Laverty (MPEG Founder) and Kurt Luthy (MPEG Executive Director) for the work you do through MPEG to support Australia’s music production community, and for the panel invite.

Love Shack Studios has always been about creating a safe, welcoming space for people to make music, especially for those who may not have felt supported or included in other creative environments. That’s why we’re so excited to see founder and owner Jess Bennett taking the stage at this year’s MPEG Forum to speak on “Safe Studios – What Does It Mean to Run a Safe Studio?”

The MPEG Forum is a once-a-year gathering that brings together producers, engineers and music industry professionals to connect, learn and help shape the future of music production. Through panels, discussions and networking with leading industry voices, the event is designed to engage, inform and inspire the broader music community.

Jess has long been passionate about fostering inclusive, supportive and professional creative spaces. Their contribution to this important conversation reflects the leadership, care and advocacy they bring not only to Love Shack Studios, but to the wider community and music industry as a whole.

Congratulations, Jess, on being asked to share your expertise and help drive positive change in music production. We can’t wait to see you absolutely smash this panel!

Cheeky courtesy of Lash!

Last July saw studio owner, audio engineer, music producer, multi instrumentalist and DIY build genius Jess Bennett walk the red carpet in both LA and Sydney for the premiere of Freakier Friday, which features Lash’s iconic track ‘Take Me Away’ front and centre, a song now forever tied to the film and its stars.

And honestly, seeing Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan rocking out to the Pink Slip performance in LA? Epic!!

Around that time, Lash gave fans a little update on where the band members are now, and this one was all about Jess.
