One of our bigger projects from 2019: 'Destiny' by Wukun Wanambi, collagraph and metallic screenprint on Hahnemuhle paper, 64x100cm (yes, metallic and yes, they’re big!). Thank you Munuy’ŋu Marika, Bitharr Maymuru, Liam Haley, and Andrew Conn for assistance printing!
About Destiny:
'Mullet travelled from river to river, ocean to ocean, looking for their destiny. This is at Gurka’wuy. They also travelled to other various communities. We sing a song, and dance as well, to carry the tide of Gurka’wuy water, bringing the guya (fish) into the river, to Trial Bay. There is a place called Marraŋu, Golumala, they sing the song there, where the three rivers come together. The water is called Gudutja and they are looking for their destiny, just like you and I tracing our family tree on a computer, looking for our great, great grandfathers and grandmothers.' – Wukun Wanambi.
Wukun Wanambi works out of Buku Larrnggay Mulka Centre in North East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.

Had a great time working with Stanley Taylor from Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre earlier this year. Over two weeks he designed, cut and proofed this three layered woodblock print of Ungud (Snake).

The Ungud story is about two young boys who didn’t listen to their elders. They disturbed the Ungud snake, refusing to stay away from its waterhole believing that the elders were trying to trick them. They built a hideout by the waterhole and banged sticks from its safety and to their shock the lillipads started to move and a huge snake head came out the water. The snake, not seeing the hiding boys, went back under the water. Believe your elders!

Stanley Taylor, ‘Ungud (Snake)’ reduction woodblock on paper, 37x77cm. Visit Www.mowanjumarts.com for more information on Stanley Taylor and the art centre.
