Saturday Technical support at St.Luke

David Coles, founder and director of Langridge Artist Colours will be holding a painting clinic at St.Luke every Saturday for the next few weeks.

If you’re in Melbourne and need answers to a specific paint question come in for one-on-one conversation.

Semi-opaque mineral pigment with excellent drying qualities. Not an overbearing violet in mass tone, with a gentle red undertone. Excellent for luminous shadows in landscape and portrait.

The pigment was originally named Nürnberg violet, and little is known about its early history beyond its creation in 1866 by E. Leykeuf.
The compound can be generated by combining manganese dioxide, phosphoric acid, and ammonium dihydrogenphosphate.

Claude Monet was quoted saying "I have finally discovered the true colour of the atmosphere. It's violet. Fresh air is violet. Three years from now, everyone will work in violet."

Introducing Algae Black.

A new black. A different way of thinking about colour.

At Langridge, we’re always exploring new materials that can expand the possibilities for artists. Our latest discovery comes from Living Ink Technologies, who have developed a remarkable black pigment made from renewable algae waste.

Rather than relying on petroleum-derived carbon black, Living Ink transforms leftover algae biomass into a high-performance black pigment, capturing carbon and giving waste a valuable new purpose.

We’re delighted to introduce Algae Black to our Professional Fluid Acrylic range.

Why Algae Black?
• Made from 100% renewable algae waste feedstock.
• 200% reduction in carbon emissions. Captures more carbon than it emits during production, making it a carbon-negative product.
• PAH-free and a plant-based alternative to petroleum-derived black pigment.

And importantly, this is still about making a proper artists’ paint. We want new materials to earn their place in the studio through performance, not just their story.
