Two time Emmy Nominated, AFI and multi Logie award winning television producer Joanna Werner established Werner Film Productions in 2008 after many years producing live action children’s and teen drama series which have screened around the world. The company went on to be named the 2012 Australian Children’s Television Producer of the Year at the SPAA Independent Producer Awards and in 2013 was no
minated for Children’s Producer of the Year as well as Australian Production Business of the Year. Werner Film Productions’ first series, the acclaimed teen drama Dance Academy, first screened in June 2010 in Australia and has gone on to be a global success. In 2011 and 2014 the series was recognised with a nomination at the International Emmy Awards in the category of Children’s and Youth. Dance Academy is currently screening in over 160 countries around the world including ZDF in Germany, Teen Nick in the US and Nickelodeon in the UK. Series 1 and 2 of Dance Academy both took out Logies for Most Outstanding Children’s Program (with a further nomination for Series 3), Gold Plaques at the Chicago Film Festival’s Hugo Television Awards, Bronze World Medals at the New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards, two Australian Writers Guild Awards (with a further seven nominations) and three Australian Directors Guild Awards (with a further one nomination). All three series won the Kidscreen Award for Best Companion Website. Dance Academy has also been nominated for three AACTA Awards and two Kidscreen Awards for Best Tweens/Teens Non Animated or Mixed Series. The third series of Dance Academy premiered on ABC3 in Australia in 2013 and takes the total number of episodes to 65. Werner Film Productions is developing a number of projects for children, teen and adult audiences, and is currently in production on Ready For This, a joint venture with Blackfella Films for ABC3.
