Tango Duende

Tango Duende Tango Duende is an experiment in teaching Argentinian Tango. Tango Duende is an open level, casual tango class suitable for complete beginners.

Creative director Scott Baldwin has been dancing Argentinian Tango for 12 years, and has created tango duende to fill a niche in Melbourne tango. It’s the deeply intense connection forged between two individuals and the timeless music of Argentinian Tango that elevates tango out of the mundane and into the ethereal world of “El Duende“, the spirit of evocation. It is this essence that has captivated many around the world and seen Argentinian Tango become a world-wide phenomenon. For more than 12 years Scott has been entranced by the elusive spirit, attempting to know and understand “el duende de tango” (the essence or spirit of tango). From humble beginnings in Melbourne, to an intense year of focussed learning from a host of amazing maestros in Buenos Aires, Scott has explored and wrestled with El Duende. Tango Duende is an experiment in teaching others how to achieve the connectedness and subtlety that tango demands. Classes will focus on teaching both lead and follow roles to all participants in a non-gendered fashion, and will also experiment with the idea of “cambio de roles” (change of roles) as a fluid dynamic negotiation between lead and follow within the dance.
