FINAL DAYS

WILD CALM
JUSTINE WAHLIN
——
Justine Wahlin’s practice explores the relationship between nature and human experience, inhabiting the space between belonging and estrangement. Through a diverse and experimental approach to image-making, she investigates themes of place, memory and perception, creating works that are both whimsical and contemplative
——
Wild Calm explores the dynamic interplay between stillness and movement within the natural world. Across the exhibition, moments of quiet contemplation coexist with bursts of energy, reflecting nature’s capacity to be both restorative and untamed.

The works embrace the complexity of landscape, revealing patterns, rhythms and fleeting moments of harmony that emerge from apparent disorder.Through this tension, Wild Calm invites viewers to consider the ways nature simultaneously grounds, energises and renews our experience of the world.

FINAL DAYS

THINKING OF A PLACE
AMBER AND EAMON NUTTALL
——
Our five current exhibitions are are now in there final days so why not stop by the gallery and check them out before they come to an end. Amongst the new shows is ‘Thinking of a Place’, a joint exhibition from siblings Amber and Eamon Nuttall which runs at the gallery until Sunday 14 June–don't miss out!
——
'Thinking of a Place' captures moments in time. Reflecting on memory, the viewer is immersed in scenes from journeys both near and far: a colourful marketplace, a balcony nestled in the trees, and the busy rhythm of the street. Each work reaches outward, drawing the viewer in.

This exhibition began as a conversation while swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Siblings Amber and Eamon were travelling through Sicily, journeying from village to village, through the mountains, and along the coast. As they photographed and sketched the landscapes around them, they were inspired to bring their complementary practices together in this exhibition.
——
Visit our website for the full details of ‘Thinking of a Place’ and further information on all current exhibitions or visit the gallery Tuesday–Saturday 10AM–5PM and Sunday 11AM–4PM.

NEW IN THE STOCKROOM: PETA ARMSTRONG
——
New sculptural ceramic objects by Peta Armstrong have just arrived in the stockroom. Featuring earthy glazes and richly textured surfaces, these bird skulls and vessel-shaped sculptures are exquisite. Their organic forms and tactile qualities create a striking presence that invites closer inspection.
——
Peta Armstrong makes high fired stoneware ceramics from her home studio on Wadawurrung Country, the Surfcoast Shire of Victoria, Australia. She is enamoured by the process of making wheel thrown and handbuilt work, decorative utilitarian pieces and sculptural objects that tell a story.
It is through the act of creation and personal meditation, that she hopes to bring to the viewer similar feelings of leisure, of drifting into a calm space, for the mind to play and take relief from life’s incessant naggings and calm any chaotic thoughts.
——
To view more details about these pieces, head to our website or visit the gallery this week.

CURRENT EXHIBITION–‘FRAGMENTS OF URBAN ESSENCE’
ZORY MCGRATH
——
Our current BSG Projects exhibition is now in its final days. Don't miss your chance to experience Zory McGrath's unique postcard-like paintings of Fitzroy and surrounds!
——
Zory McGrath is a Bulgarian-born Australian artist currently based in Melbourne. With over two decades of professional practice across Europe and Australia, she graduated with both a BA and an MA in Fine Art and is represented by Brunswick Street Gallery.
Known for her captivating cityscapes, McGrath explores the intricate formation of individual identities shaped by collective experiences in public spaces. Her work reflects the vibrant sights of suburban landscapes, capturing urban life that feels both familiar and foreign. Utilising impressionistic detail and a dynamic colour palette, she skilfully orchestrates the interplay between human figures and architectural forms.

"I see my art as an ever-evolving process, just as the world is ever-evolving around us," she notes, emphasising her dynamic and responsive approach to creativity.

FINAL DAYS

MEANDERING
JORDAN O’CONNOR
——
Jordan O'Connor's exhibition 'Meandering' reopens at the gallery tomorrow for its final days. Don't miss the opportunity to view this collection of intricate ink drawings before the exhibition comes to an end. All current exhibitions close on Sunday, 14 June.
——
‘Meandering’ acts as a vehicle with which to navigate and make sense of the world around us. The exhibition’s call for slow observing invites the viewer to spark dialogue with place, reimagining the ordinary and allowing time to dwell on its overlooked beauty. The intersection of spaces, both natural and built, generates a particular kind of aesthetic sensation, as we witness the bleeding of anthropogenic detritus into the last of our natural landscapes.
——
Visit our website for the full details of ‘Meandering’ and further information on all current exhibitions or visit the gallery Tuesday–Saturday 10AM–5PM and Sunday 11AM–4PM.

CLOSING TONIGHT – GROUP EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY

WINTER GLOW
11–26 JULY
——
Applications close TONIGHT for Brunswick Street Gallery's next group exhibition 'Winter Glow'.

"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire." – Edith Sitwell

'Winter Glow' is a group exhibition paying homage to the warmth found during the season’s shorter days and long nights, in the sun’s fleeting rays, the warmth of a fire, and the connections fostered by the physical closeness the season invites. Viewers are invited to experience this time of year through the reflective eyes of the exhibiting artists.
——
Whether working in still life, portraiture, landscape painting, or object making, artists are invited to respond to the warmth, light, colour, connections, and emotions evoked by their own interpretation of 'Winter Glow'.

We welcome submissions across all mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, installation, digital media, and experimental practices.

For more information follow the link in our bio or head to the Exhibit With Us page on our website. Applications should be submitted to [email protected]
