Liminal Theatre and Performance

Liminal Theatre and Performance It interfaces traditional and contemporary arts training practice with different cultural communities.

Liminal Theatre is a company of artists and associates engaged in theatre research, training, practice and performance under the artistic direction of Mary Sitarenos and Robert Draffin. Liminal examines theatre as texture and transformation: the relationships between text body light and space, the spatial relationships of the spoken word and sound, and the encounter between the moving image and theatrical performance in both theatre and non-theatre venues.

Selkie Project.
November 2023 Showing @ Rus Kitchin Studio, Fitzroy Street St Kilda.
The Selkie Project is a poetic collision of an old myth with contemporary experience. A new Australian work, it combines a virtuosic one-woman performance with vast video imagery by Green Room Award winner Ivanka Sokol and evocative sound design by Meta Cohen.
In part one the selkie, a seal-woman, is displaced into an unfamiliar human world. Grotesquely animal, but trapped in the wrong skins of ‘woman’ and ‘mother’, she is an alien living on land and yearning for the sea, to which she ultimately escapes, leaving her daughter behind.
