Join the Port Stephens community as we come together and form the outline of a 100m Humpback Whale on the shores of Fingal Bay to pay homage to the annual whale migration where over 40,000 whales pass our coast

Be part of this iconic event on Fingal Beach as we pay homage to 'Humpback Highway' where over 40,000 whales will pass by on their southern migra

tion with their calves by forming an outline of a 100m long humpback. Learn about the conservation of our Marine Parks and waterways with information from local organisations. Fingal Surf Life Saving Club will be running a sausage sizzle in the lead-up to the event. Event Opens: 10.00am
Muster for formation: 11.00am

Whale disperses: On the siren
Event closes: 1.30pm

The drone footage is in, and after calculating the QR code registrations, manually counting using the footage and double-checking through A.I, the results are in……and Port Stephens you guys showed up yesterday to help us create our Human Whale along the gorgeous shores of Fingal Bay, with the final count coming in at 1225 people forming out the 100m outline of a Humpback Whale. 🫶

This event gets bigger and better every year, and it’s become an annual event that the community look forward to every July.

We would love to thank all of our amazing stall holders Moonshadow - TQC Cruises, Imagine Cruises - Port Stephens, AquaMarine Adventures, Sea Shelter, ORRCA , OCCI - Ocean & Coastal Care Initiatives, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Port Stephens Visitor Centre for interacting with our community, and spreading the message of marine & environmental conservation. 🌿 🙌

To Emmie's Face Painting & Balloon Twisting & Judi's Facepainting & Body Art for making all the kids & adults look amazing while forming our whale 🎨

To Longboat Cafè & Marine Rescue Port Stephens for keeping everyone fuelled up with food & hot coffee. 🌭☕️

To Parée and Mick Jones, for keeping everyone dancing, and singing the morning away, and keeping us all entertained 👏

To our two drone operators for capturing the magic, John Herrett from AeropiX Australia, and Kerry Smith....thank you for videoing what was an incredible morning in Fingal Bay!

We absolutely love this amazing timelapse shot by John Herrett from AeropiX Australia.

We often get asked “how long does it make the human whale”….well we wish it was this quick but after our friends at North Point Surveys help us outline the whale, it doesn’t take long for everyone to make their way down to the beach, stand next I the marked and we can create magic 🐳

More footage and the final count to come soon 🫶🏻🙌🏼

The count is underway, and we are gathering the drone footage from today’s Human Whale 🐳

The wait is almost over! Join us tomorrow, Sunday 19 July, for the annual Human Whale, a fun-filled day celebrating the incredible humpback whale migration.

The event starts at 10am, with the formation of the whale happening along the beachfront at 11:30am, with the event finishing around 1:30pm.

There's something for everyone:

🌏 Meet local marine conservation groups and learn how we can all help protect our amazing ocean wildlife like Sea Shelter, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
