Helen Mitra Art Hi I am an Australian artist and I am largely self taught. I paint a variety of subjects ranging from portraits, seascapes and botanical.

I use oils and acrylics and love capturing the vibrancy and colour in nature and life.

My little way out there painting is finished! I can’t say this is my best painting but I enjoyed making it up as I went. It obviously is for someone who likes lots of flowers and colour. I just used a lot of images from photos I’ve taken which I thought were pretty but couldn’t be a painting on their own. I used three reference photos from Lisa Meyers Swanson which is the hummingbird, the lilies are from Nancy Waldock and the frangipani flowers are from a contributor on Free Reference Photos for Artists. So thank you! All the other images come from in my garden and all the Botanical gardens I visit in my travels, including Bunnings Warehouse where I often find beautiful flower images. 😉 My painting days have also slowed considerably as I recently became a grandmother for the first time! Painting is now restricted a little! So my apologies for limited posts! Cheers everyone!

The start of a new painting. This is a canvas I had custom made as I wanted a long narrow canvas to create a collage of images I have collected during my travels. I love everything tropical so there will be plenty of colour and flowers. These images are from my garden, Singapore Botanical gardens and Bali with one or two reference photos from other contributors.

Finally finished my paintings of lorikeets in the red bottlebrush in Hastings street, Noosa. I wanted to capture the colours and beauty of both the flowers, foliage and birds. Lorikeets are very hard to see at times as they blend into their surroundings very well so I’ve tried to depict this in my painting. I’ve used the greens and blues of the lorikeets and painted these into the foliage. I also like the contrast of the buds of the flowers against the green. Very grateful if you can share my work.

Progress on the blocking in stage. Rainbow lorikeets, Noosa, Queensland. Oil on canvas 60cm x 76cm.
