๐งOn the 22nd of May 2026, ๐๐ข๐๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ฆ๐ฃ๐๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ artist Azarmidokht Elahi led a group of Iranian and Afghani women in exchanging feelings and stories related to the significance of water and land. The workshop was held at the Community Refugee Welcome Centre.
Through hands-on making, participants crocheted, cut shapes, and worked collectively on handmade paper layered with soil and coconut husk. Using soil, turmeric, and natural pigments, they added the words for โlandโ and โwaterโ in their own languages, creating a shared imagined landscape. Through collective handcraft, we became an echo of what water and land have taught us: resilience, continuity, adaptation, and the flow of life.
Together, the group reflected on how we are part of both water and land. From water, we learn flow, change, and the continuation of life. From the land, we learn resilience, belonging, and endurance. Through conversation and collective art-making, the workshop explored the connections between memory, identity, migration, and our relationship with the natural world.
