Congratulations to TBSSS sculptor BJ Kim Sculpture who will be a finalist in the 2026 Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf with his sculpture “do Geese see God?”

The 2026 exhibition will feature 49 finalists selected from over 700 local and international entries. The exhibition will run from 2 October - 29 November at Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf. More news, closer to the time.

Congratulations to sculptor and TBSSS teacher Karen Alexander on her recent large scale commission project.

Keeping watch over Western Sydney’s M7 Motorway are two large bronze figures honouring Dharug matriarch Maria Lock and Robert Lock.

Maria Lock, daughter of Yarramundi, broke barriers in education and in pursuing Aboriginal rights, and her story connects many Dharug families and generations.

Co-created by Dharug artist Jasmine Seymour (descendant) and Balarinji Studio; Sculpted by Karen Alexander.

They stand on the Elizabeth Hills batter as part of the M7 Motorway Public Art collection.

Karen was honoured to work with Dharug artist Jasmine Seymour, who is a Dharug language teacher and award winning children’s book author and illustrator, working towards promoting multilingual Indigenous Australia.

Some photos from last week’s Special 4 Day Anatomy workshop with guest teacher Georgina Mills, who came from Adelaide to work with 10 students in our Studio.

Georgina and her students talked about the skull and then sculpted it from a plaster copy. Afterwards they talked about and then built the features, the nose, lips and eye. Lastly with a model they placed the muscles on one 1/2 of the face.

Georgina was super proud of all the students that attended.

Every skull turned out slightly different as they navigated the intricate structure of the face. However that’s what gives us our characteristics! Understanding that we are all slightly different, how and why but ultimately the same is a great place to start ❤️
