Brisbane Birralee Voices (BBV) is an accomplished choral ensemble of young musicians from schools across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. BBV meets weekly to sing, grow, and build a welcoming and inclusive musical community. Auditioned from Years 7–12, these singers form the organisation’s signature treble choir and explore music across a wide range of genres and styles.

Their weekly rehearsal program encourages young singers to develop their vocal technique and strive for musical excellence. They also explore movement and staging to enhance performance outcomes and create greater engagement with the music and its context.

Each year, BBV enjoys a full and varied performance calendar, appearing in Birralee-produced concerts as well as collaborations with other youth and community choirs. The ensemble is also regularly invited to perform with arts organisations such as the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Ballet. They also look forward to their annual appearance as part of the Spirit of Christmas season, produced by Queensland Performing Arts Centre.

In the third and final movement of 'Wattle Sky' by Joe Twist - Star Seeds - magical melodies and lush harmonies conclude this epic work. With wonder and imagination, this piece considers a hopeful future with "a profusion of yellow across the night sky". Enjoy this stirring and exciting finale movement!

The second movement of Joe Twist's Wattle Sky - Seed Lullaby - moves between expressive slower moments, and driving rhythmic sections. It is such a stunning and evocative setting of the poetry by Jodie O'Regan. Enjoy our performance from 2025 below!

One year ago, we presented the Australian premiere of Joe Twist's 'Wattle Sky'! To celebrate this landmark performance, we are sharing each of the three movements, which describe an incredible story of space travel and Australia's natural environment! This first movement is called 'Under the Australian Sky'.

Rounding out our string quartet is the fantastic William Shardlow. Our concert today will feature his wonderful viola playing - purchase your tickets here: https://events.humanitix.com/hillbrook-chorale-favourites
William Shardlow, aged 17, is a viola player in QYS. William is in grade 12 at the Gap State High School where he is part of the Accelerated Music Program. William has studied the viola for 9 years since 2017 and has had various chamber group experiences including TGSHS quartet. He has recently completed his AMEB Lmus exam and had received high distinctions in grades 5-8 leading up to it. William has had a love for music and the viola since he first picked it up in grade three and has driven him to get to where he is today. The warm, mellow, and tenor qualities of the viola are the reason he has such an appreciation for his instrument. William has performed in Young Mannheim Symphonists for two years in 2021 and 2022; he has also performed in MOST 2023 (musically outstanding students). In 2022, he played in the Austa Q Concerto Competition, Enoggera Eisteddfod, and has attended the Australian Youth Orchestra’s national music camp twice.
