Rounding out our string quartet is the fantastic William Shardlow. Our concert today will feature his wonderful viola playing - purchase your tickets here: https://events.humanitix.com/hillbrook-chorale-favourites
William Shardlow, aged 17, is a viola player in QYS. William is in grade 12 at the Gap State High School where he is part of the Accelerated Music Program. William has studied the viola for 9 years since 2017 and has had various chamber group experiences including TGSHS quartet. He has recently completed his AMEB Lmus exam and had received high distinctions in grades 5-8 leading up to it. William has had a love for music and the viola since he first picked it up in grade three and has driven him to get to where he is today. The warm, mellow, and tenor qualities of the viola are the reason he has such an appreciation for his instrument. William has performed in Young Mannheim Symphonists for two years in 2021 and 2022; he has also performed in MOST 2023 (musically outstanding students). In 2022, he played in the Austa Q Concerto Competition, Enoggera Eisteddfod, and has attended the Australian Youth Orchestra’s national music camp twice.

Having previously studied under Gwyn Roberts, she now learns from Hungarian cellist György Deri and Hyung Suk Bae, Principal Cellist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO). The orchestra’s international tour in 2023 created many memorable experiences, including the privilege to perform in the Musikverein in Vienna.
At the Queensland Conservatorium, Laura enjoys participating in additional orchestral and chamber projects with her colleagues. She has gained valuable insight performing alongside professional ensembles such as the Australian String Quartet, LA Philharmonic Wind Quintet, Ensemble Q, and QSO. Currently, Laura is an Upbeat Artist with Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra, participating in rehearsals and performances and receiving valuable mentorship and professional industry experience.
Outside of classical performance, Laura values using music to connect with the community through private teaching and supporting local events such as art exhibitions and church performances. Her additional love of musical theatre sees her working as a pit musician in various community and QPAC productions.
Looking ahead, Laura is excited to continue a diverse performance career exploring a range of musical genres as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral performer.
