Bilyana Festival Grounds

Conditions are perfect here at the BFG (Bilyana Festival Grounds) . Looks like a grassy strip and with overcast conditions we are expecting to see some early swing. Expecting a full house here for the New Years Fest, I’m sure the openers will knock a few kegs over softening up the ball . Given the team dances all the way down the order we’ll see the bands serve up some shin music as well a few foot breakers.

All in all 1500 humans of all ages will witness two classic innings with all 150 players singing from the same sheet- see a ball, have a ball.

Tickets are $242.22 with seven extras.

Over to you Tony.

New Year's Eve @Bilyana

Alrighty kids. Lets go. Please note this is for no byo. There is a small chance we may have to make it BYO and we will tell you. If that does happen then we will ask for a corkage fee.. Lets hope we can get on the beers.

Edit 14 December
————————————
We are waiting to get a confirmation on numbers re kids. Probably be something like 5-12 $20. Under 5 free but still need a ticket and under 1 no ticket. It’s because every human counts in the numbers for covid rules.

Kids tickets will be ready later today. Don’t fear, we will ensure ticket holders get kids tickets no probs. It’s a tech thingy...

End edit
————————————-
As far as the line up goes, well there will be about 9 bands and some DJ time too. We will let people know who is playing over the next few days.

To be clear, as per the t and c's there is a chance we might have to pull this gig. Full refunds will happen and we will do it well before you get in a car to get here. Crazy times means we need your understanding and trust on this.

G'day groovers, hows life out (in) there?

Our attempt at having Bilyana declared a sovereign state has been unsuccessful to this point. So gatherings dont seem likely any time soon.. Essentially we all live in this current reality where planning anything for anyone is a tad futile..

What we do have is an intention of doing something within what ever restrictions are present. It may be some streams of bands' in house sets, some room to focus on punter made clips, a photo dump, and probably a few beers you have arranged..

We reckon we've done a good job of hibernating every odd year over the last decade anabit, so, like a good ol daffodil that pops up in the bush where some one lived 100 years ago, we'll be right when the sun does shine.. A bit older, but this fertile ground for farming fun can last the distance.

Look after yourselves, do the right thing, take the pain into growth, and remember to laugh at something or some one every single day

04/02/2020

If you’re not doing much on 4th - 6th December, come over to ours for a bit of backyard shenanigans. Bob and Jill are coming...

Amazing footage from Bilyana NYE uploading right now ... feat. Hayley Hoopla, Miss Friby, Mal Webb, and the puppetry of Julian Chapple
Hello lovely Bilyanians, Does anyone have the email/contact details of the festival organisers? It appears that I have been overcharged by the festival ticketing system and need to request an investigation/refund. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Eamon :)
Happy New Year, Thanks again to all the Bilyana team! and the Vibra Phonic for their amazing NYE set.!

I have one adult ticket for Bilyana tomorrow for $200 DM me if you’re keen!
It's here! Years in the making, this album features brand new stuff along with revamped singles we've released in recent years. We think it's our best work yet. Early release to Bandcamp before it appears on the streamers in the next week or so. This is the only place you can access the Master quality files, and it's the best way to support us. We'll be celebrating as the sun goes down on 2021 - 8pm NYE on the Creek Stage at Bring on Bilyana '22 (the home of Folk, Rhythm, and Life).
Well gosh darn it... I'M PLAYING A FESTIVAL!!! Thanks to the Bilyana mob for a guersey over New Years. It's gunna be ace! Get you tix folks. Lets hang out! The other side of my 10 artist musical challenge over 10 days. Thanks to Ben. Chosen theme - female bands, global, all eras. Day #2 of 10. Koori female folk trio Tiddas were a band who bravely blazed a path in the 90's that few had dared walk before them. I loved their music, their warmth and their courage and listened to them a lot in the 90s and of course spun their tunes wherever I could on community radio. Tiddas' debut album - 1993's "Sing About Life" spawned no less than 18 tracks that saw them blend gorgeous vocal harmonies with lyrical themes around life as koori female musicians (Tiddas, Real World), their families (She's Dreamin, Ann's Song, Waiting), culture (Inanay, Spirit Of The Winter Trees) and the wider indigenous issues of the time such as deaths in custody (Malcolm Smith). My copy which I bought in 1995 came with a bonus 9 track live CD recorded at the Big Day Out. This 21 minute live gem with it's sheer warmth and humanity was perfect for playing to my daughter Lauren over the next couple of years when putting her down for an afternoon nap. I remember reading a review of Pay TV at the time - which was a very new concept in Australia. The reviewer when discussing the music channel observed a Tiddas song come on, it's quiet beauty transforming a noisy lounge room of kids into a calm and transfixed audience. There was definitely something magic about the chemistry of Lou Bennett, Amy Saunders and Sally Dastey. Their next self-titled album released in 1996 saw Tiddas gaining confidence with some bold new material. The single "Ignorance Is Bliss" and the gorgeous stripped back ballad "Burden To Bear" - a tribute to indigenous women the world over - were stunning highlights. But the show-stopper was the politically charged "Anthem" as they sung about how Advance Australia Fair did not represent or include them or any of their indigenous clan. And I have to say, it really opened my eyes and ears to how racist our National Anthem is. In 1996 this was a time when little Johnny Howard was trying his best to sound interested in the plight of our first nation's people whilst simultaneously burying their cause. Whilst highly talented songwriters, for this song they handed the pen to Dan Warner, who fronted the band Overnight Jones. Those lyrics bite just as hard in 2020 as they did 24 years ago "we are the lucky country, where anyone can win, if you are born to the right family, and have the white coloured skin, so don't sing me your Anthem until you've learnt how to share". Frustrating isn't it that we are still wondering when meaningful reconciliation and a treaty will allow us to truly come together as one country. Subsequent albums included Lethal By The Kilo and the live album "Show Us Your Tiddas". At pretty much the height of their game, they broke up in 2000. Tiddas formed a close bond to many Australain bands of the time - typically those with a strong social conscience such as Midnight Oil and Weddings Parties Anything as well as legendary indigenous songwriters Kev Carmody, Archie Roach and his late wife Ruby Hunter. My favourite Tiddas gig was in 1996 at one of the Weddoes famous 6 nights of live Christmas themed shows at Richmond's Central Club Hotel. They were the middle band on a 3 band bill that was opened by a young folk trio from WA who were turning heads called The Waifs :-) On Lethal By The Kilo they covered a new Mick Thomas song about reminiscing, which would go on to become a classic "For A Short Time". In return the Weddoes covered "Anthem" on their farewell tour album. I recall fondly witnessing a very emotional Tiddas reunion at the 2006 Folk Rhythm and Life Festival at Bilyana in Eldorado. A tune for you here's "Anthem" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2zhs8ZAt1g&feature=emb_logo Image courtesy of Tiddas page.
Exciting news in today's The Border Mail - we are expanding our threatened species monitoring program into #Wodonga! This has been made possible with a $120,000 grant from the #RossTrust, a $5,000 donation from the Festival of Folk Rhythm and Life (Bilyana), and a partnership with Wodonga Council. We have begun preparations to start monitoring in mid-late Autumn at 60+ sites throughout Leneva / Baranduda, Wodonga's major urban growth area. We will be initially targeted arboreal mammals using motion sensing cameras, such as Squirrel Glider, Brush-tailed Phascogale, and Spotted-tailed Quoll. This strategic program is an extension of the one we have been running in Albury's main urban growth area since early 2018 (with funding support from AlburyCity), and will help build knowledge of the targeted species and to keep track of how they respond to a landscape undergoing urbanisation. The data collected is being made available for consideration by councils in urban planning and bushland reserve management. The project will also involve introducing the NatureMapr citizen science platform to Wodonga. There will be many opportunities for interested community members with a passion for nature to get involved. MORE INFORMATION TO COME!
