What a beautiful reminder of how much learning can happen when children are given time, space and meaningful experiences.

This afternoon our Makers & Dreamers students explored the fascinating world of ants through art, observation and creativity. Using masking tape, sponges and paint, they created winding ant tunnels before bringing their tiny workers to life across the page.

Beyond the art room, there were opportunities to connect with our animals, offer gentle care and kindness, and simply enjoy being children. Moments spent feeding ducks, creating, imagining and working alongside friends all help build confidence, responsibility, patience and connection.

At Little Tree, we believe childhood should be filled with wonder, creativity, nature and belonging. Today was one of those afternoons where all of those things came together beautifully.

Two Beautiful New Art Opportunities for Term 3 at Little Tree

We are so excited to introduce two wonderful art experiences for Term 3, each offering a different pathway for creative expression while holding onto the nurturing Little Tree rhythm that our families love.

Both classes include time to connect, create, enjoy the animals, and share warm homemade Little Tree bread together.

Monday Creative Studio with Hayley Martin
5:00pm arrival for animal time and bread making
5:15–6:45pm | Ages 7 to Adult

A structured art class exploring a range of mediums including acrylic painting, watercolour, charcoal, oil pastels, clay and printmaking. Hayley holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts and a Master of Teaching and brings a wealth of experience helping students build skills, confidence and informed choice through exposure to different artistic mediums.

Wednesday Open Studio with Anna Walsh
4:30–6:00pm | Ages 10 to Adult

A relaxed studio space for students and adults to work on individual creative projects with gentle support from professional artist Anna Walsh. Anna is experienced across a variety of mediums and can support both independent artists and those wishing to explore something new.

Please reach out if you would like further information or to reserve a place. We can’t wait to welcome both new and returning artists for Term 3.

This afternoon, Tribe set themselves a challenge: to build the biggest Little Tree cubby ever.

Before we began, we gathered together to talk about teamwork, negotiation, respect and community. We explored what it means to listen to others’ ideas, how to respectfully build upon an idea and how to negotiate change rather than simply changing something that someone else has already created.

With a simple rope framework set up by Jase and a collection of pre-loved sheets and pillow slips generously donated by Super Clean Linen, the children got to work.

What followed was an incredible example of children developing the very skills that are so important during the Nine- to Ten-Year Change. They negotiated, collaborated, solved problems, shared leadership, adapted their thinking and worked together towards a common vision.

There was no blueprint. The cubby emerged through conversation, creativity and cooperation.

By the end of the afternoon, ropes, sheets and pillow slips had been transformed into the biggest Little Tree cubby we’ve ever seen complete with tunnels, rooms, gathering spaces and cosy corners.

More importantly, the children experienced what it feels like to be capable, heard, respected and part of something bigger than themselves.

Sooooooo much fun!! 🙌🙌🙌

Little Tree Tribe 🌱 From Scraps to Soil
We explored the journey from food scraps to rich, living soil.

We reflected on our individual worm farms- what worked, what didn’t and embraced the learning that comes with trying again. Together, we created a communal worm farm and spoke about the gift of worms and chickens in caring for our earth.

The children observed compost in different stages-warm and active, rich and ready and compared it to the hard clay beneath their feet.

A highlight was digging our worm farm hole with a crowbar- building strength, teamwork, and a sense of “I can do this.”

We also visited our chicken caravan, seeing how the land is naturally prepared for planting.

This is the cycle we are learning to live:
food → scraps → compost → soil → planting → food. 🫶🏻🙌🍃

We are super excited to be beginning Term One Art Classes at Little Tree next week 🎨
We have a few spaces remaining in some of our programs. Note- Monday Open Class (for ages 10 to Adults) is perfect for those who would like to paint along side their child / grandchild. 🫶🏻 No prior experience required. 🙌
