'ASCENT - FROM THE VALLEY FLOOR TO THE COSMOS'
7 - 27 September 2026
This exhibition brings together local artists responding to the diverse environments that surround us. Through their eyes, we embark on a visual journey that scales the heights of our natural world, shifting our perspective from the earth beneath our feet to the stars above.
Looking Down: We begin on the valley floor. Artists ground us in the rich textures of earth, flora, and the intimate rhythms of walking.
Looking Out: Moving upward, our gaze meets the horizon. We look through the forest canopy, capturing local birdlife and sweeping, expansive views.
Looking Up: Finally, we reach beyond. The exhibition ascends into the night sky, exploring the stars, the cosmos, and the ancient sky stories far above.

Together, these works invite us to pause, look closely, and reconnect with every layer of the world we inhabit.

ASCENT – From the Valley Floor to the Stars - a pop-up exhibition featuring the natural spaces around us.
🌱 Ground: LOOK DOWN The earth, roots, flora, and fauna of the Botanic Gardens, Endeavour Drive & Marsupial Park and surrounds.
🌳 Horizon: LOOK OUT The canopy, altered horizons, lines of sight, birdlife, and sweeping valley views from the Skywalk & Oxley Lookout.
✨ Cosmos: LOOK UP The infinite night skies, starlight, and deep space inspired by the Astronomy Centre.

📅 Exhibition Runs: 7 September – 27 September 2026
HOW TO SUBMIT:
Due to the quick turnaround, we will accept existing works or if you are quick, new works - paintings, prints, drawings, ceramics, textiles, wood, mixed media (all ready to hang), or small sculptures.
To secure space please email us with a photo of your piece, its dimensions, and a brief note on how it connects to the theme.
(Please name your photo: your name, title, size). All works must be for sale.

The great Australian kickback, long service leave...James White '8 to 80' Retrospective includes many of James' visual diaries and journals. This one is from 2004, a trip along the Silk Route, using long service leave, from TAS The Armidale School

Come and have a look, and flip through folders of unframed works from 8 decades.
